I know I've asked elsewhere and got the answer on most premierships, can I now entertain the dark side of my soul and find out the most Grand Final losses for individual players. I don't care how many wins they had, but morbidly interested in how many separate losses they may have had? I'm presuming that Graham Cornes and Paul Weston with around 6-7 each are our leaders, but just interested to see the leading 10-12 guys who were on the wrong side of the ledger on the big day the most, and guessing John Cahill late 60s early 70s would be up there too.

What years would Weston have played in losing g/f's, i didn't think it would be 7?

Maybe 77? 81, 82, would that be it??

Weston played 74 in debut year, 75, 77, 81 and 82 for a start, but I've probably given him a bonus Essendon losing grand final.

Maybe some Eagles players from 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2005?

North players like A Jarman, Clisby, Redden, J Riley, S Riley, Arnold, Bennett, Hart, Sanders & Tiller would have clocked up 3 each 85, 86 and 89.

But, yes, I would have thought Bay players from 74,75,77,81,82 would be up there ....

One of the unluckiest ... Hewett from Glenelg ... injured and missed the 85 and 86 flags, came back in 87 and played in 2 consecutive losing GF's

ok fair enough, i hadn't realised what year he debuted.

I think Cornes would have 69,70, 74,75,77,81 and 82, while I'm presuming someone from Port maybe had 64 and then had 66-68 and their early 70s losses to get up to six.

Probably leads into the obvious question of most Grand Finals in total

Only Cicolella and Colville played in the above four Grand Finals.

Eventually I'll get all the runners up sides, but I would have thought that Peter Carey would be the answer - 74, 75, 77, 81, 82, 87 and 88. Cornes could also have 7 - 69, 70, 74, 75, 77, 81 and 82.

Not sure how I managed to leave Carey out of this!!!

Anything though to annoy Harry the Horse on this topic is a good thing.

1913,1914, 1919 (x2), 1923,1926,1927 for a total of seven. (For the record 1926 and 1927 were Challenge finals)
Luckily for Percy he managed to snag one in 1920, and also coached the 1930,31 premiership sides.

For the record Trevor Clisby missed the 85 Grand Final.

Cornes playerd 8 GFs won one
Carey played 10 GFs won three

Stupid question time.. how does one lose 2 grand finals in one year for the same club? (unless there was a draw and a lost replay?)

My guess - they lost the first GF then challenged the winner (meaning they must have finished top that year) and lost the rematch as well.

Kind of like Jeff Fenech.
