Old North Games on Youtube

Mic's been posting these on the Roost but I thought they may be of interest to others since they also involve Norwood X 4, Port, South X 2, Central X 2 and Sturt. Ive included Mic's comments underneath to give you an idea of which games they were:

North v Norwood 1990:

Below is some links to the much talked about North vs Norwood game from 1990, often referred to as "The Bradley Ryan vs Michael Aish game". The quality is pretty crap unfortunately. Every week or so I'll put on some new footage of different games.

North v Port 1989 (Fathers Day Game):

Took me 5 months, but I've finally got around to it. Again the quality is crap (I must try and work out a way to improve it). I've got a few weeks to kill so I'll get quite a few other games put up as well.

I think this was Round 21, 1989. The game was moved from Saturday at Alberton to Sunday at Footy Park. It was heavily promoted (I remember getting free tickets at school) and 30 thousand attended. Top spot was up for grabs. The only footage that was shown on Channel 9 was the second half which is disappointing, as that was when Port did all their scoring. The highlight was D Jarman's 5 goals (none shown on the footage) and the Steven Riley/Wayne Mahney brawl.

The picture is very fuzzy in parts but it clears up.

North vs Norwood, 1989 Prelim. Final:

After a week's break from finishing top, North got beaten by Port in the semi by a few goals. They were heavily criticised in the media as looking "old and slow". North responded well during this game and never looked liked like losing. A couple decent brawls, Sims got reported (somehow he got off), and D Jarman was again in fantastic form.

From memory this was our last game of the year.

North Vs South, 1991 2nd Semi-Final:

Somehow South finished top at the end of the season, and therefore played us after our strong win against the Eagles in the Qualifying Final. This semi was a very tightly contested but unspectacular match, a swirling wind making it hard to score goals all day. Our defence was brilliant, as was Hart and Krieg. After a quiet game, Parsons' goal in the last quarter was a highlight.

North vs Centrals, 1992:

One of my favourite games from the early 90s, a tough and close encounter all match, with North needing a win to hold on to the double chance. Peter Turner has a huge impact in the last 10 minutes.
<edit by Wedgie - Central fans should check out the goal by Coffee (standing Nick Holland) on the last installment of this lot>

North vs Norwood, 1992:

Norwood were killing us until about 10 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Then it started pouring with rain and pouring with Rooster goals. Highlights of the final quarter at a very muddy Prospect Oval:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkCeX_RVOKI

North vs South, 1992:

After struggling at the start of the season (5 losses in their first 5 games) North showed some much improved form in this match. Not exactly sure what round this is, but I think it was around Round 7 or 8. Highlights from Adelaide Oval:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf775i2UUe8

North vs Sturt, 1992:

Parsons was out of the team (I think due to suspension) so Nunan tried Nick Holland at full forward. The move paid off as he kicked 8 goals. Highlights from Adelaide Oval:

North vs Norwood at Norwood, 1992:

This game, from memory, was about 2 thirds into the season. Burton takes a nice mark at the end:

North vs Centrals at Prospect, 1992:

Seems like decades ago, a game when we thump the Dogs:

I could put also put up North's 1973, 1985 and 1986 Grand finals if they want to see them as well

I'm sure the 2007 GF would be of interest to them also Rushby.

That'd be good guys, the more SANFL stuff on Youtube the better. I'd be more interested in some of the more obscure stuff that's harder to find like minor round stuff or foundation cup stuff though.
Ive got about 95% of Norths wins from 2003 onwards but am too lazy to go through and make highlights as each is the entire game, maybe one day.

A couple more Mic has added:

North vs Woodville, 1990:

The second to last time we ever played Woodville, about Round 6. I believe this was Parson's first game since returning. Highlights from Football Park:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBG4TEnQWgo

North vs Port, 1991:

A game when North really looked like a premiership side, winning by a big margin. This was the 3rd time we played Port in '91. A few punches thrown during the match. Highlights of the 2nd quarter from Prospect Oval:

North vs Centrals, 1991.

From roughly the middle of the season (I think). Highlights from Elizabeth Oval:

North vs Port at Alberton, 1991.

Back in the days when it was tough to win at Alberton, this was one of my favourite matches. It poured non-stop throughout the first half. The very wet conditions made it hard to score and the lead changed frequently during the game. Some of the supporters standing (and at times jumping) at the southern end look familiar. Highlights from the last quarter:

North vs Torrens, Round 5, 1989.

Perfect footy weather helped North give the Eagles a 100+ point thumping. Some strong marks taken during the game. Doug Smart kicked 5 goals in the first quarter and I think this was Troy Lehman's first game. Highlights from Football Park:

A very comfortable North win, not sure what round this is. Darren Jarman kicks a nice goal on the run. Highlights from Elizabeth Oval:

North vs Norwood, Round 1, 1990.

A big hyped-up game, dubbed as the "Battle of the Jarmans" - the 1st game they have ever played against each other in the SANFL. Doug Smart's first game for the Legs as well. Fantastic crowd at Norwood Oval. North had a few injuries (which was the theme for our 1990 season) and had quite a few first-gamers for our team such as Brodie Atkinson, Simon Hill, Ashley Bond, Bradley Ryan and Marc Marshall. Some cracking goals kicked by North, including 2 pearlers from Burton at the Northern end, demolished the Legs. Highlights from Norwood Oval:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DM9uxRi0AUQ

Some random stuff:

North players piggy-backing Port players (not sure how Jars' back felt after this) after SA got thumped by Victoria in the State Of Origin game at the MCG in 1989. I believe this was part of a bet.

North vs Norwood, 1989.

This was about round 8. Over ten thousand in attendance to watch North destroy the Legs. Doug Smart takes a nice mark and Darren Jarman kicks some great goals. Highlights from Norwood Oval:

North vs South, Round 4, 1989.

Very wet conditions, which didn't stop North from pounding the Panthers. Sean Tasker kicked 7 goals and Sims soccers a nice goal in. Highlights from Football Park:

North vs Port, Round 3 1989.

My first ever SANFL game. The game was close for much of the day, North too good in the second half. Great crowd in attendance. Highlights from Prospect Oval:

North vs Glenelg, Round 6, 1989.

Nice crowd at the Bay, close game for the 1st half until North break away. I remember Pete Simmons got his jaw broken from an elbow of a Glenelg player (who I believe was suspended for 7 games for it). Highlights from Glenelg Oval:

Mic,

Reakon you should upload highlights from the following Port v North games...

1986 - Round 16 (?), Alberton Oval.
1991 - Round 2, Football Park.

Not exactly sure who won those thrillers...

:D

I remember the 91 game, the margin was less than a goal wasn't it? A night game at Footy Park?

North vs Glenelg, 1990.

Towards the end of the season. North were 5 goals down mid-way through the 3rd quarter but came home strong in the last. This was Mick Redden's 300th game. Highlights from the last quarter at Football Park:
