I noticed a few of those games were played in August. I'm assuming if they played in WA in that era at that time of year, they didn't make finals in SANFL, given how long it would take to get there and then back. With the trip to country Victoria though, that distance would presumably not be an issue to get back and play finals.

You are correct... Sturt finished 5th in 1920 (after being the premier in 1919), so were free to travel.
