I wouldn't think Anderson qualifies as a one hit wonder. He had a brilliant debut season, played with Adelaide University (I believe) in 1987, but came back and played a wonderful year for Norwood in 1988, winning the Club Champion award.

Played only 1 game in 1989 and (I think) he took a country teaching position. All up he played 52 games for Norwood and 1 for SA.

Anderson coached Kapunda for a couple of years and won their B&F about 4 or 5 years in a row. One of the best players ive seen in the Barossa league.
Whilst on the topic of ex Norwood guys who had short careers Brad Taylor and Stephen Connolly were great footballers in the Barossa league, cant remember Taylor much but can remember Connolly

Whether at Central or Norwood, I always thought Connelly could have been a star .. Whether as a young lad I had an over-inflated opinion of his abilities, or he didn't live up to his potential, I'm not sure?

I think he'd already won a few by the time he tried out with Glenelg. I heard he played well in 1 or 2 Reserves games (I'm not certain if he made his League debut or not?), but didn't get on that well with Kerley so decided to return to the RMFL.

Yep, Bayden Cybulka was a bush legend, a centreman, but never played a league game. Last sighting of him was teaching in Murray Bridge. Won a bucket full of Mail Medals and was brought to Adelaide by Glenelg to play in the 1967 Reserves finals, much the same way as Barrie Robran at North the year before.

Cybulka was simply a class above that level and was B.O.G. in the GF against North Adelaide. I think most people expected him to return to Adelaide in 1968 where he would have definitely played league, but he never fronted. Would have been interesting to see how he went.

AH I remember a Cybulka playing for Tailem Bend in the early 1970's, i was playing Colts in those days for Meningie, he was a good player from memory.

1996 B&F James May - also made Advertiser team of the year that year in a wooden spoon side.

Didn't play much league before or after that and this is not a post that's intended to be a bag as he was a quality player and I'm not sure if he fell out with Carman or if work commitments took over.

I knew James from my uni days, nice bloke.
I think his B&F was a bit later than that, wasn't it?
Was living in Renmark, teaching, while playing league.

James May was probably the greatest country footballer I ever saw play. He played for the now defunct Murray Bridge Redlegs in the mid 90's including a grand final appearance in '95 when he was knocked out and his side then lost the GF to Tailem Bend. If he played 4 qtrs his side probably would have won. As a Port supporter I was hopeful he'd gep picked up in the initial squad in '97 but that never happened. He did well to win a B&F at Sturt though. Re the other player mentioned above, I saw Lindsay Smith play as a key forward for Bordertown in mid late 90's as a 16/17 year old, he could certainly take a grab (as could another Bordertown/Glenelg player James Bury). I was surprised he didnt have a more successful career in the SANFL and/or AFL.

John Hayes would have been a one-hit wonder at Westies, had be been a hit. A Western Australian state CHF, I think at the time (1975) he was the most expensive recruit we'd ever had (from memory his clearance cost $35-40K) and he didn't fire a shot. Played 11 games, did nothing and went home at the end of the year.

Vice captain too, IIRC and was part of the infamous count against West Torrens? He was the one who told the West skipper that if he didn't call for a count, then Hayes would instead.

Four players were recruited from other SANFL clubs to the Eagles for 2006. Three of these players ended up in the premiership side; the other played the first six matches and spent the rest of the year in the Reserves. Travis Oakley kicked 5 goals in the first round; 7 over the next five and that's as far as he advanced his League career with the club - he went to the WAFL the following year.
