I reckon Ian Aitken (and maybe David Wildy) was on Radio 5RPH for a while in the early 90s, and hosted their football show which won a couple of Radio awards.

On a lot of the 70s clips, but didn't get a gig in the 80s?

"Elbows" was around in the 80s.

Every few years I see him at an airport lounge somewhere.

Still got that perfect TV hair and radio star swagger...

I reckon Aitken lost his job doing his afternoon sports show, when KG went across there from 5DN, perhaps 20 or so years ago.

I reckon he might have gone to one of the lower profile radio stations after that, can't remember which one though.

Great footy commentator. From memory he was from Western Australia originally? Anyone got any info as to whether he played much footy himself?

During the 1973 GF telecast, Max Hall mentioned he did play for a WAFL club, but I'm not sure who. Maybe East Perth?

He played for Claremont in the early 1960s. I think he played about 60 games for them but he got injured late in the 1964 season and didn't get back into the team for their premiership that year.

I know that it is always personal taste but I thought that he was a very, very ordinary commentator.

So he didn't play in the SANFL then?

Did he move to SA to take up a footy media position?

No he moved to SA in about 1969. He had already called footy in Perth. In 1969 he called some pre season games with Channel Seven and then in 1970 he commenced his gig with Channel nine. I don't know why he originally came to Adelaide but he was long finished as a player. I think he retired from Claremont after missing the 1964 premiership.

Ian Aitken (with Gary Window) called footy for 5AD when it was the top footy station between 1986 and 1988.

Ian K Aitken 32 games 1964-66 Claremont

Scraping into the four in the final qualifying round, the Tigers won the first semi final against Subiaco by twelve points, beat Perth by nine in the preliminary final, and faced the highly favoured East Fremantle in the grand final. Conway sprang a surprise pre match by dropping back pocket player Ian Aitken and playing three rovers...Mumme, Parkinson, and Wilson, with two of them in the forward pockets.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.
