The Cornes boys once drove past Glenelg Oval, but they were lost... they eventually found their way home to Alberton...
PS just think, the PAP's will be picking up more Cornses, under the father-son rule... (my work here is now done :D )

Add Mahoney, Hardwick, Carr, Bailey to Cornes x 2 and Williams all great Glenelg names proping up the Power 2004 premiership. The Glenelg premiership tradition continues.....

Talon doesn't have any fumes (suggest the Bifenthrin fumes are going to my head ), what we use comes in a wax block form, but I don't handle the stuff anyway...
How can me not saying something be ludicrous? If I posted what I wanted to, you'd declare it ludicrous (but might be privately embarrassed.... )
Anyway, back to the grind...

For a start Mahoney isnt "great", and all those players except for the Cornes' went to Port in the AFL first, it was incidental that they were allocated to Glenelg as their SANFL team. And Bays, thanks for letting choco do his traineeship with your club, then sacking him, letting him get some AFL experience with the Bombers before coming back and coaching Port to their first premiership in the AFL. :D

It is time for my 5 cents worth. ex VFL/AFL players will always refer to to the compition as AFL because that is what it is called now. but the Herald still uses VFL/AFL. The VFL is just that now the VFL. The VFA went broke back in 1995 after that season. The VFL still has a few of the old VFA clubs but it is a different Compition to the VFA. My question is that the SANFL has changed its name three times so did the player whom played back in the old SAFL days did they play so many SANFL games?

I've actually thought about this a lot and enjoyed reading all the comments in this forum...

You have made a good point Strawbs about whether a distinction should also then be made between SAFL and SANFL games.

However, I have a theory which explains why the VFL/AFL situation is different:

I think that some people (such as myself :) ) are quite picky about making a distinction between VFL and AFL because we define these three words as follows:

VFL = League involving the best footballers in Victoria (traditionally at least)
SANFL = League involving the best footballers in South Australia (traditionally at least)
AFL = League involving the best footballers in Australia

Since the 1960's or so, there was a gradual but fundamental change in the identity of the VFL from being the League for the best footballers in Victoria (with an occasional ringin from interstate) to the National League that all good footballers in Australia aspire to be part of today. The SAFL to SANFL was purely a name change, not an identity change. This is also my response to Wedgie's comment that it is no different to women changing their name. It is very different because the identity of the competition also changed immensely.

I'd also like to point out that I don't believe it is any of these kinds of emotions that is driving my point of view. I also tend to be amused at South Australians who feel this way about Victoria. :)

The crime which I believe I am guilty of is being overly pedantic and sensitive about people who like to change history, either through ignorance or deliberately for their own advantage. I would like everyone (regardless of where they are from) to realise that the VFL of the past was a different type of competition to what the AFL is today, and hence should be recognised as such by calling it by its name of the time. It was a state-based League, just like the SANFL was. This is regardless of whether there is a state with "small man's syndrome" called South Australia somewhere out to the west or not. :)

My subject line choice of "Victorian contempt of the SANFL" was mainly just something to grab people's attention, which obviously worked!
