Rick Davies & Graham Cornes records in the VFL????

Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

The line across the centre was primarily caused by the continual wrestling between North's Gary Dempsey and Collingwood's Peter Moore in the 1979 Premliminary Final, though I am not sure that it was the cause of it becoming national via the old NFL. I was at that game, but as a 5 year old, have virtually no memory of the game apart from the area where we sat at VFL Park.

I do remember however that Cornes was far from spectacular, Ebert wasn't too bad and Davies fared OK mainly in the forward pocket - Michael Moncrieff would have been the likely full forward with Davies in one pocket and Leigh Matthews resting in the other when he wasn't on the ball.

Ian Paton was their ruckman and IIRC Davies was rarely (if ever) used in the ruck.

Have plenty of good memories of his training runs agaisnt Woodville though

Thats fair enough, just thought you'd think of something to defend him regardless of the situation

But I reckon I'll have to toss this one back, he's hardly up to the standard.

Some players from a similar era that did well in the VFL - Copping, Weston, Hodgeman, Taylor, BLIGHT and Ebert I believe was 3rd in norths b and f.
But it was more than a victory for Greece. It was a stirring example to free people throughout the world of what a few brave men can accomplish once they refuse to submit to tyranny.

There was a perception that Davies didn't get away with some of his tricks with the men in white in the VFL like he did with them in the SANFL.

I think you will find that Ebert polled the most browlow votes of any Roos player that year and finished high up in the B & F. (immic)
Cornes was recruited as a FF in a side that had a fair few options (blight and glendinning included)...remember seeing him play in the 2's once at Princes Park playing as a pocket to Snake Baker...quit the club halfway thru the year, and returned to be BOG a few weeks later in a mid season state match.

Dempsey and Glendinning outpolled him.
