There was no excuse for what Sims did that day, no matter who you follow.

And there was no excuse for what Fitzsimmons, SImpson, Lindner and Goss did either. Just watch the first quarter of the game and you would have to agree that West have absolutely nothing to complain about it. The papers of the day and certainly the channel nine replay laid most of the blame at West. No one as far as I can see is making excuses for Sims.

Sorry, rig, I think any team that has one of its players king hit from behind has plenty to complain about.

Whatever any other player might have done is a separate issue and is often the last refuge of opposition supporters to deflect from the seriousness of the incident in question.

Simpson was chasing the ball and Sims king hit him from behind, knocking Simpson out and causing distressing damage to him that lasted some time. Sims got 12 matches.

Being a 'class act', Sims then deemed it worthy of further nasty comments hours later.

The worst incident I've seen, closely followed by Steven Riley's hit on Roger Luders.

Regardless of prior incidents, there's no place in football for incidents such as Sim's act.

I repeat no one is defending Sims.

Stephen Kernahan's kinghit of David Wildy and definitely Stephen Copping's kinghit of Roger Carlaw both were the same, both caused similar distress but don't raise anything like the same amount of comment.

Ken Eustice did the same to Ken Tierney, pleaded guilty under provocation and received a repirmand.

Bullshit. Wildy deserved that one. Kernas let him get away with hitting him in the back of the head at every contest, so when the opportunity presented Wildy set himself up beautifully.....

Kim Klomps 'efforts' in the 1990 Prelim were worse than what Sims did imo. Had 5 or 6 big cracks at players before finally connecting with Rohan Smith. Pathetic effort from a pathetic human.

Wasn't it Klomp who stomped on a South Adelaide trainer in the '91 finals series?

There was a game between Port & Central at Elizabeth late in 1996 which was pretty willing. Tough hard match and it ended up with David Brown and Tim Cook going toe to toe about 30 seconds after the half time siren which ended in a 5 minute all in brawl whilst the mini league was meant to be playing. Some wild haymakers were thrown from both sides but only two reports were made - both Port players and they were rubbed out for 3 and 1 week.

Pretty good game too. Central came home with a 5 goal breeze and won by 10 points from 4-5 goals down

Kernas so called king hit most certainly wasnt!! Just misjudged Wildy's head for the ball ;) . I watched the incident through binoculars, as i could see what was about to unfold and Kernas didnt get reported. Wildy belted him from behind on many occasions during the game and finally copped one back. Ahhh those were the days. :D

I think his punishment has gone on for too long.
How would you like to have to work with Chris McDermott and Graham Cornes?
