Peter Darley the original jumbo prince, many on here too young to remember just how good a footballer he was, best tap ruckman i've seen and rarely dropped a mark, legend.

I never realised he was from Carlton, and a premiership player no less.

Bill Bennett was a fantastic player, always stitched Westies up.
Robin White was very good too, before playing for Melbourne.

Try getting a DVD of the 1968 VFL Grand Final - Bill is at centre half forward for Carlton.

Neil Kerley tried every enticement he could offer Bill Bennett to switch over to Glenelg but Bill stayed true to South, loyalty rarely seen these days, hell he was tough.

John Schneebichler is my all time favourite player, I did not get to see South in the era of the greats like Kantilla and Dean.

Ron Hatley and Mark Naley were another two favourites growing up.

Naley for me but an odd one I loved watching was the unfashionable Dean Talbot. He always got the job done, he just didn't look like a footballer to me for some reason.
Hi, My name is Ron 'Bluey' Dunn. Did you know I played in the 61 & 62 Tasman Premiership sides....

Bill lived near me when I was an impressionable 11 yo , my bro and I used to have a kick in the street and Bill would stop for a kick with us when walking home from training. He was a very tough looking man....about 6ft 1or 2and built like a brick s-------.

He played for Carlton in the 1968 GF , recalled from the reserves for the gf after playing most of the season in the 2's. He was told by Barrassi that his role was to follow his teamate -a young Jesaulanko around all day, and belt anyone who got near him.....

I recall a game at Adelaide oval v Norwood where Phil Carman played before going to Collingwood, he was only 18-19 I recall. Bennett was dominating at chf for South so Nwd switched Carman onto him, fabulous Phil tried to rough him up a bit.... bad mistake! Bennett dropped him with one of the best uppercuts you'll ever wish to see....

Another story I heard in recent years....
back in the early 70's South like many other clubs had "pleasant Sunday afternoons" with a keg and strippers for $20/ head. One particular day at St Marys a couple of patrons decided they wanted their money back-citing a lack of quality in the entertainment. The 3 gentlemen concerned cornered the South official towered over him and demanded their money back...Thankfully sanity prevailed and violence was averted as Bill Bennett armed with a bar stool approached and enquired if there was a problem....

unfortunately I never saw him play,( I'm not 120 yrs old) but 6 flags as captain coach would look good on the cv. ;)
