Patrick Wiggins. Kicked 6 in his first game with us and we thought we had a star. Barely had 6 kicks in the rest of his career with us.

The daddy of them all goes back before most of the posters here were born. Barry Potts. He had been out with North with very limited success, he was playing for Broadview in the amateur league in late July, 1960. North needed a second rover. They asked Potts to return. He played the last couple of minor round games, the second semi and then kicked 7 goals in a b.o.g. performance with the roosters, in a game they only won by 5 points. He remained at North for another couple of years but never again reached any heights at all.

A great irony of his Grand Final performance was that it was against Norwood, the team that had his uncle, the legendary "Tiger" Potts as head trainer.

Possibly not, as he played a deal of league football over a career spanning 6 seasons at Sturt, but people remember him as the player who kicked 10 goals against West at Richmond and was dropped to make way for Emmy Jones the following week.

This one has me puzzled. Our first games for points at Footy Park in 1984 was against Sturt. I looked up the team in that match and the only 1st game players were Rodney Maynard, Craig Kelly, and David Dickinson.

As for kicking 5 goals on debut, we've only had 7 players do that in the club's history. Jo Ahmat did it against Glenelg at Football Park in 1983. He wore number 52 that day. Could that be who you are thinking of? If it is, he went to WA and played over 80 games with Swan Districts and Claremont.

The player who wore 26 against Port in 1984 was Stephen McCarthy, and he kicked 3 goals. He was recruited from Melbourne, played little football with Norwood and transfered to West Torrens where he did very little more.

Sorry mate, Ive just realised my error .. I meant to say the "first footy park game under lights for premiership points" .. My bad.

Stephen McCarthy was the bloke I was thinking of, not sure why I thought he kicked 5, the ol memory aint what is used to be :?

One thing that still bugs me from that game is that I can't work out whether it was Tommy Warhurst or David Dickinson who got the belt in on Dwayne Russell - Either way it was a good result :D

Steve Thompson - 1985 season. Recruited after the Australia day game in darwin where he kicked three goals. Disappeared after the 85 season to go who knows where.

Sam Logan - brother of Tom and (arguably better skills) burst on the scene in 2002/3?? then did his ankle and that was it. Mad as a cut snake.

Shane Fishlock - played some sensational games in Choco's last aseason especially in his debut against Port at Footy Park. Then lost form and interest in '95 and went back to Morphett Vale where he has played about 2000 games.... hard at it player
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Whoever it was, he'd become the idol of many footy fans in Melbourne. Dwayne Russell doesn't appear to be too popular these days :)

There is an urban myth down our way that Boydan Cybulka played in a GF for Glenelg, got Best on, then returned to play in the Country, never to play SANFL again, & proceeded to win 8 Mail Medals

Broadview were in the NADFA at the time did not join the the SAAFL until 1964. Barry is a life member of the club and led our B grade to its first premiership in 1969 as captain/coach he also one the association medal that year and coached the A grade in the 1970 A3 GF but unfortunately we lost. Barry was at the 40 year reunion in 2009, and tossed the coin on the day as the A grade wore replica jumpers to in honour of the side. That side produced 2 club presidents several coaches as well as A grade coaches and two 300 games players. Several of that side are still involved with the club today.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

I think he'd already won a few by the time he tried out with Glenelg. I heard he played well in 1 or 2 Reserves games (I'm not certain if he made his League debut or not?), but didn't get on that well with Kerley so decided to return to the RMFL.

This is before my time, but did something similar happen with a Port player - Neil Hawke I think? Kicked a bag of goals, then dropped. Then move to Western Australia and returned to the SANFL to play with West Torrens..?

I stand to be corrected, but I believe Neil Hawke booted 15 goals against South at Adelaide Oval in 1957, and couldn't hold his place in the team. The regular FF was Rex Johns. He left for WA where he was WAFL leading goalkicker in 1959 with 114 goals for East Perth.

When he returned he joined West Torrens. People were amazed he managed to get away from Port Adelaide, not once but twice (Port famous for being able to hang onto required players at the time).

His career ended in 1966 where involved in a scuffle with Neil Kerley and injuring his shoulder. As he was a Test pace bowlerm he decided to give the footy away and concentrate on cricket.

Adam Richardson.

And no, not the big tatooed, burley FF that played for West Adelaide and about 3 games for the Crows.

The Central Adam Richardson came from Port Adelaide Magpies I think. Had a good year in 1994 as the leading goal kicker for the club.

Can't remember if he played in 1995 or not, I think Grant Coffee being the other full forward in the side pushed him out.

I always wondered where Richo ended up, I'll have to ask Grant Coffee tomorrow night when I see him.

Richardson was famous for his long run up, that's for certain. If he took a mark at the top of the goal square, his run up would almost be back at the 50m arc, no kidding !!

I think the famous Central fanzine (BM) mocked him on one of their front covers once as well !!!
