I also have wondered what happened to Tom Thorn (West 70s) and how many games did he actually play for West.
He was sensational!

Tom played 24 games and kicked 59 goals, mainly as a CHF and yeah, he was sensational.

Couple of North players ....

Peter Turner - debuted with Ben Hart in 1990. Nunan compared him to D Jarman. Listed on the Crows first list, didn't do much then went to Carlton (I think). Then where?

Adam Saliba - I know he decided to return to footy at Gaza with his mates but, still, he looked like he could be great. Also on the Crows first list and even played a few AFL games + 1 state of origin game.

How about Ross Sawley from Sturt in the 1960s? Not sure if he played in the 1950s or not, but I have him playing 3 games in 1962, none in 1963, and then he topped the SANFL goalkicking in 1964, and that was all we saw of him. Whatever happened to him?

Sam McArdle was an excitement machine for Centrals who I enjoyed watching - you never quite knew what you were going to get.

Josh McLoughlan - played 30 matches between 2002 and 2003, don't know where he went, but a good player.

Chris and Matthew Kluzek were both missed by the club in 2002 - Chris retired to knee problems (at only 23). Then they both ended up at Henley I think, a couple of years later. Chris led the club goalkicking with 72 and 64 goals in 2000 and 2001 respectively, but 2002 saw the club goalkicking won with just 25 goals!

Those that kicked 20 goals or more in 2002 are an interesting list:
25.13 - Paul Allison
23.12 - Mark McKenzie
22.12 - Nathan Bock
21.18 - Justin Cicolella
20.12 - Hayden Skipworth

I've thought of a few:

Mark Jones - very clever forward in early/mid 90's for Norwood, i thought he was AFL bound, i think he eventually finished up at the amateurs (attitude problem presumably?).

Simon Hill - clever North forward from early 90's, suffered multiple knee injuries from memory, could have been anything.

Tony Giles - brilliant half back flanker, was an elite player in the SANFL in the early 80's with Port, but cut down in his prime by a knee injury.

Craig Budarick - very competent tall forward with Glenelg in late 80's/early 90's, i thought he could have played 200 games for the Bays, seemed to disappear after 4 or 5 seasons.

Michael Poynton - opportunist half forward with NA in early 80's, i think from memory only hung around for 2 or 3 years??

Peter Crerar - dashing half back who Port recruited from the Amateurs, struck down by a knee injury, personally love to watch his runs from defence.

IIRC Michael Poynton was with North for only 1 year - 1986 - and played in the losing GF side. He wore no 24. I think he simply went back home to Victoria the next year

Leaping Lindner can confirm I'm sure

My recollection was that he was a good, honest player without being a shooting star

As for Budarick - didn't he go to the Sydney Swans for a year or 2? Again, my recollection is of a good, but not great, player. Tassie?

Yeah it was a while ago, Budarick certainly wasn't a superstar, but he was a good forward option for the Bays. I do seem to recall he may have been drafted, you could be right Hondo, whatever the case i expected his footy career at a high level to last for longer than it actually did.

IIRC he did his knee badly in 88 or 89 (others might know for sure) he came back and did a medial in early 1990

Whatever agility or speed he had was gone by the middle of 1990. He hung around and was in and out for a few yeara played in our two losing reserves GFs in 92&93 and then went to the country - Clare IIRC.

A good player cut down by the dreaded ACL curse so we never got to see the best of him after 1988 when he burst on to the scene.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

One in a long list of very gifted young footballers at Norwood who just didn't have what it takes above the shoulders. Jones had Daicos like goalkicking skills and really should have been the next big thing in football. Some of the goals he kicked in his brief career at Norwood were pure magic.

Was drafted by Richmond early in the 1992 draft, but it didn't take Richmond long to realise they wouldn't be able to harness his talent so they never pursued him. I won't tell the story.

Yes, ended up in the amateurs, had a go later at Central District but didn't last long there either. I'll never understand why there are so many highly skilled footballers with no brains.

I'm not sure whether Peter Oatey's and Andrew Aish's careers were short enough to qualify here.

Wouldn't think so. Peter Oatey played 120 games from 1965 to 1972, and Andrew Aish played 89 games from 1981 to 1986 .... although I know all Norwood fans would have liked at least another 100 games from Andrew, he was a star.

What year did Andrew Aish represent the State AH? Would it be fair to say he only really had one standout year?

He represented SA in 1983, but I'm not sure if his 1983 season was any better than he played in 1981 or 1982. Unfortunately for Norwood he played most of his games in those 3 seasons, missed all of 84 through studies, played only 5 games in 85 and 11 in 86.

Andrew was as skilled as his brother Michael but wasn't as dedicated to the game because of his career.

Jarrod Twitt - Sturt
Damien King - Norwood 1997. Think he would have kicked 30-40 goals out of a forward pocket as a 20 yo. Not sure whether he palyed in the GF or not?
