West Torrens had blue and gold vertical stripes up to 1941. After the war, they changed to blue with a gold sash, then altered to blue with a large gold eagle on the chest (my favourite). Then in the early 70s went to blue with a smaller eagle on the upper chest, then back to blue and gold vertical stripes. When Kerley took over, they reverted to the blue with gold sash.

So what about jumpers pre 1941 .Were West Torrens always Blue and yellow(I should know that  ).Back when they were Port Natives what colours did the team wear?.

According to fullpointsfooty.net, Port Natives/West Torrens were originally red and white, then black and gold. I never knew that...

Can anyone shed some light on why this is?
This has annoyed and puzzled me for 30+ years. :? :-k
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Part of the reason is that it is because the focus of Norwoods emblem being the RedLegs.

In theory the winter socks were traditionally pulled up high, highlighting the red colour, yet when a short sleeved gurnsey is called for the socks are pulled down neccessitating the adding of red to the guernsey to keep the colours consistant.

2005 I think, this was for a promotion of Barry Stoodley Pty Ltd http://www.barrystoodley.com.au/, as they had been a long term sponsor of the club.

I reakon it was this match:

Round 17 2005
Eagles 4.4 8.9 12.11 16.14 (110)
North 3.4 7.7 10.10 13.10 (88)
Prospect, 3044

Incidentally, to give an idea of how crowds have picked up since 2005, after Round 10 until the finals, there was just one 5000+ crowd - and that was an Eagles/West match! (Ok, it was the first match back at Thebarton, though) ;)

For the life of me, the luddite I am couldn't post Port's post-WWII guernseys on here.

But I could on a Port Magpies Facebook group.

If anyone's interested...

Are lace ups still going around in the SANFL??? I thought they were banned - at least in the AFL

One of those questions that just paddled around in the back of my mind, never actually coming to the front, for 30 years. And this seems like as credible an answer as any*. Good on you.

* Although it loses all relevance when it comes to Norwood's all-time games record holder, who of course always had his socks down in all weather conditions and circumstances. (In one of those embarrassing small-town media things, I think some commentator even made 'Does Macca have no respect?' the issue du jour when there was a vice-regal attendance at a big final and Macca was the only one of 40 standing around for the national anthem with jumper out and socks down.)
