Dad talks often of green ginger wine as part of the pre-game warm up in his playing days. Then a smoke at half time.

The 'cloche hats' that the ladies are wearing are almost certainly 1920's unless there was a delay in the fashion reaching Australia...was originally from France I believe.

Could the men's hat bands provide a clue. I assume they just say SA but maybe comparing the style of the crest with pictures from a similar period.
