Westies were trying after the 1997 season, which Ablett missed after doing his Knee for Geelong 2nds in Round 1 97. Not the time that he temporarily quit and found god.

Ah, thanks for the clarification LBT. It makes far more sense that Doug was trying to recruit a 36 year-old with a wrecked knee.

From what i remember, Uncle Dougie did have a chat to him and quoted in the Advertiser how great it would be to have him at Westies and the crowds that would have poured through the gates just to see him play would bring in plenty of $$$$ for the club. Why it didn't eventuate only a few would know.


Maybe the lack of $$$$$$$ for Gary Ablett :)
