Doubt it as the increase is due to the Bays and Sturt making the finals and they're out now. :(

Will the GF crowd crack 30 Gs if North win?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Apparently they will have to move it to the MCG to cope with the numbers

Easily IMO. But if they don't, here we go again with the mid to low twenties...

Some interesting things I noticed from the figures:

+ A Port v Norwood grand final (1999: 39,135) was the first year the crowd dropped below 40k.

+ The same. Is that right???

Centrals v Eagles (2004): 28,637
Centrals v Eagles (2005): 28,637

+ The crowd for Centrals v West was very similar to some of the ones for Centrals v Eagles.

Do we presume that the days of 40k GFs are past us? Can they happen again, over time? Or will a more popular match-up see us go above that mark again?

Whoops, I should have updated the 2004 crowd, it was only 24k, updated now.

I think a popular match up would see us get above 40k again.
What exactly a popular match up would be is debatable though.
I don't think North v Central would bring over 40k but a Port v Norwood probably would, maybe even a Norwood v Sturt.
It's hard to work out what sort of crowds teams like North and Glenelg might pull in a GF, Glenelg have had some shocking crowds over recent years but got great numbers out in the finals and to the occasional Sunday or Monday match at home.

Interesting to note that the eagles featured in the 5th highest (corrected blues 2002) GF attendance out of the last 16 GF's.

Based on the original post the average for the 5 eags v cd GF's has been
2000 34819
2001 26378
2004 24207
2005 28637
2006 25130

Average 27834.2

Wrong. Eagles were involved in the 5th best Crowd (from 91-06) in 93.
All 4 GF 95,96,97,98 bettered that.

Average for all GF 91-06 is 36,716

Wedgie/Spelly - can you double check the following:

1991 - I have 39276, you have 39263
1996 - 46132 vs 46120
2001 - 26387 vs 26378

Blues, the differences may have been accounted for by some of the crowd being Tasmanian. Some counted one for each, some two.

Congratulations to both CDFC and NAFC in boosting crowd from 25,130 to 30,400 (approx) - over 5000 increase

Makes Major round figures very impressive this year up over 10,000 on 2006 (54000 in 2006, 64000 in 2007 - up almost 19%)
Well Done to the top 5 this year in Sturt, Glenelg, Eagles, North, Centrals.

Another reason for media support of our competition.

I will change my signature in a minute - apologies CDFC fans

That GF crowd was only 2600 approx above the average of the 5 eagles v centrals grand finals of 27,800. A perfect day today too.

Earlier in this thread and others like it - it was suggested as there would be 6 different clubs playing in the 3 GFs and there was a change with no WWTFC team represented the crowd would be up by many thousand - - some predicting 35000 or more.

To get an extra 5000 was a very good result and well done to all the folk who attended but given what people had hoped for are the days of our GF being 35000 , 40000 or more gone forever?

I for one hope not

Well, I made this post last year on another website, this was to do with the number of times larger the Grand Final crowd was to the average minor round match. I believe the Minor Round attendances have some bearing on the Grand Final Crowd - i.e. that's how much of an interest there is of the SANFL at that time:

1982 6.45
1983 6.49
1984 7.65
1985 6.77
1986 7.23
1987 7.33
1988 6.91
1989 7.72
1990 7.74
1991 8.86
1992 10.14
1993 11.31
1994 10.27
1995 10.98
1996 12.31
1997 13.72
1998 12.16
1999 12.25
2000 11.74
2001 8.49
2002 11.35
2003 9.76
2004 8.61
2005 10.44
2006 8.85
2007 10.62 - (Grand Final Crowd/Avg. Minor Round Crowd) 30493/2871

Between 1984-90 were crowds of 50,000+, a sell out, so those numbers are down on what they are now.

Most of this years increase came in the major round - 5000 from GF and 5000 over first 3 weeks of finals and 3000 during minor round using Phil's figures.

It could be as little as moving the game to Adelaide Oval cd. Would be interesting to see how many extras you would've got then.
