Can you remember which year? It could have been between as early as 1982 to about '86 IIRC.

Unfortunately, no. Stringer went to the Bays in 1983, so that's the earliest it could've been. I'm thinking pre-1985/86, but could be wrong.

Had a look on the Roost as there was some discussion on it a few years back, but no-one could quote the year. I'm sure there's someone on here who can recall the incident more accurately.

I'm pretty sure it was round 16 1986 at Prospect.
As Stringer was running off the field after the final siren, a North supporter got in his face & may have shoved him. Stringer IIRC gave him a quick jab & simply kept running off.
Surely someone has footage?

You're probably right. Remember the game quite well, big crowd of around 10,000. Bays got over the line by 8 points IIRC after North kicked the last 3 goals of the match, including an Antrobus snap over his head in the goal-square. Recall seeing Sticks Kernahan in the crowd as well.

Here's a few to get you started, feel free to add your own:

1975 - Norm Dare jumping in the crowd to hide during the head count.

This one didn't actually happen. There was no head count.

At the Bay Oval, Derrington went for an overhead mark, Salisbury attempted to "spoil" from behind, connected with clenched fist to side of Derrington's jaw. Think it was a milestone game for Derrington, can't remember exactly, have the footage somewhere...

Found the footage. As I thought, except it was front-on and my use of the word "spoil" was fairly generous....

Amazing considering they've always been considered "nancy boys", yet had those two running around.

Was a good policy for the Bays in the 80's .. Right balance of young and old skillful players, surrounded by a throng of thugs. Thats how footy was back then, all our clubs had some blokes that would land them. Between the Stringers and Salisbury, the Bays had their share of top shelf snipers. They got the last laugh in 85 and 86 though and I guess thats all that matters.

Can't believe the number of players back then who were hell bent on headbutting Scooters poor hand or his elbow.

Unsavoury...

Bloody hell Wedgie, if you couldn't beat us in '87 with all the talent we'd lost over the border, Prospect would've exploded.
Incidentally, the spectator Stringer belted after the match, was he in the North cheer squad?

We'd lost a few too mate, Antrobus, Phillips, Campbell, Robertson, Wayne Carey, etc.
I'm pushing it a bit with Wayne Carey though considering he played in our Under 17s premiership in 87 ;)

I was just happy we beat you in 87 Spargo..... After 85 & 86 (where me older bro' spent a night in the clink) we finally got it right. Great old days, that we will sadly never see again.

I was thinking Wayne Carey was a stretch in 87.... I do recall when the Duck got to the ressie's, our coach Trevor Hill played him out of a back pocket... Didn't rate him at all! One on you list at about that time Wedge to have headed to Melbourne was Billy Lokan.

Thought about Logan but that was the end of 82.
