I reckon Mots was one of those players/blokes all South Aussies loved watching even before the tragedy :(

Agreed. Great call. Loved watching him play. Just preferred that he saved his best work for Port and Glenelg, and not us.

Who was the bright spark at Alberton who said Mots wasn't good enough to play league footy?

Reakon some residual ill-feeling might have played a part in that decision.

Imagine a mid-80s midfield with Motley, Bradley and Anderson...

Wasn't a "moment", but a whole day. My first GF at Adelaide Oval. Being a country lad, it was HUGE. The whole package from being picked up early from school so we could drive to the big smoke. Not being able to sleep the night before cos of the excitement. Getting up in the dark to catch the first bus in. Seeing my first ever finals footy game in colour!! The noise of a crowd. The only other final footy I'd seen to this time was country finals where the noise was from the horns of the cars encircling the oval (now thats another tradition that should be brought back!). Never heard a 50,000 + crowd before. Never seen what a crowd of that size could do to the public amenities either!! I tried to convince myself the 3 inches on the floor was most likely rain (it was the Sturt - Glenelg mudbath final of ??68 or 69 - maybe even 70??). Only thing I can recall about the game was Dizzy Raymond sensational ball handling in the glue-pot.

The Peckers first win Vs Port in the Buff Tyrell game. Being swept along with the crowd into the Peckers clubrooms, and getting a beer shoved in my hand by a fellow long suffering supporter. I swear he'd been crying. Beating Port & getting my first "footy beer" at age 15. What a day!

Central v Norwood at Elizabeth, 1997 (or thereabouts).

Legs win by one point. Siren sounds at about the 20-21 minute at the last quarter.

All breaks loose!

Doggies fans rush the players race to abuse and spit at the umpires...
Rowe gives the big up yours to the already rabid fans in front of the grandstand...
Brian almost starts a riot on the way out...

Best and funniest day at the footy as a neutral supporter.

Another high spot for me was the GF Norwood won, I can't remember which, when Steven Rowe took that mark close to goal late in the quarter. The look of glee on his face as he took it was pure gold.

Is that the mark he took where he claimed to get off the ground? It was about 5cm off the ground at best but I recall him talking (sarcastically) about how he 'soared in the air' to take that mark!

From memory of the TV replay I think his feet were probably 45 cm off the ground, but I think he took it at about shoulder height.
I may have a tape of it somewhere in one of the boxes not unpacked since we left Adelaide...

Final siren of the 73 GF.

15yo, followed the bays since I could think (I know, maybe that shows I can't think, but thinking doesn't come into who you bleed for!). I was sitting at the cathedral end, just behind the North cheer squad. A kind footy-loving gentleman sitting behind me had torn his beer can into a sword, and he let me know when he disapproved of my cheering. I think I have 21 scars.

I made the mistake of telling a girlfriend years later that was my most euphoric moment. She thought she should have figured somewhere ... we've long since parted :)

The crowd at the 73 GF was a violent one it seems. On top of your story, a mate of mine got hit in the face with a pie, and my current boss got knocked out after someone had thrown a bottle and hit him in the head.

I guess the excitement became too much for some :)

Punky's hatred of all things Glenelg developed at an early age...
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Jericho's point was a goal :(

But under Ricky we won :D

The Prelim win over Norwood in to get the Doggies into their first Grand Final

The 2nd Semi win over Eagles in 2000 in pissing down rain, S.Dew kicked 5 mircale goals

The 2000 Premiership, will forever be the best moment in my life, I cried like a girl...

2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008 - All our other Premierships have been just fantastic...

2004 was special with the record margin and this year is up there as the 2nd best one because we were written off all year...

Every Centrals game I get to see is exhilarating for me, some just are more so than others...

2000 GRAND FINAL (MID 3rd QUARTER)

Centrals leading by just over a goal i think kicking to the southern end.
It was a boundary throw in about 70 meters out from goal members side.
Arnold wins the tap which falls to the deck after a scramble J.Gowans handballs to C.Gowans who then gives another quick handball to who. OH NO OH NO OH NO STUWEY DEW.
Magical left foot from 55 out which goes straight through the middle goal post high the Dogs are in home in the wet and our first ever premiership is sealed.
