Spelly, The WW2 comp was a "teaming' of clubs, I think the Bays and Westies went together, do you know what ther other clubs did, and if in fact the Bays and West did do the WW2 thing ?

The four pairings were:
Port Adelaide and West Torrens
Norwood and North Adelaide
Sturt and South Adelaide
West Adelaide and Glenelg

That is how the pairings are generally shown as. They were aligned to the geographical positions - Port and Torrens being the two closest clubs in the North West/West; West and Glenelg in the West/South West; Sturt and South being South of Adelaide; and Norwood and North the East and North.

Each club played each other 4 times - 12 rounds in total. Then each club participated in the McIntyre final four system.

The Grand Final in each year was:
1942 - Port/Torrens 18.12 West/Glenelg 16.13
1943 - Norwood/North 12.10 Port/Torrens 8.13
1944 - Norwood/North 9.7 Port/Torrens 7.13

In all 84 matches were played during this period. All matches and goals played by players in this time count towards the career tally.

I don't post these stats just for that though, if they do get in*, it's a bonus. ;)

All player records count bayman, but not the teams head to head stats.

OK, exucse my possible naivitey, but what is the signifigance of 1907? If that the date the competition became the SANFL?

The name change from SAFA to SAFL occured in 1907. This was used as a starting point by Ern Kolosche I believe in the late 60s and the SANFL has used this ever since.

Due to matches being played on the same day, these are as they appear in my records, the 1000th is:

Round 16 1928
Norwood 3.3 6.9 14.15 17.17 (119)
Glenelg 4.3 8.5 11.5 13.5 (83)
Norwood, 5600

5000th match:

Round 3 1979
Torrens 2.7 10.11 10.15 12.17 (89)
Norwood 4.7 5.9 8.14 11.20 (86)
Norwood, 10927

Geez that Port - Torrens combo was awesome. Played in 3 consecutive finals. Maybe we should merge now. We'd be unbeatable

This is where I have a problem starting records from 1907 and not 1897. This was the ONLY difference between 1906 and 1907 - nothing else changed. On the other hand in 1897 behinds were added towards the score for the first time and electorate football started. Also there was a Grand Final (as such) from 1898 onwards.
1907 was however the first year that they started awarding an actual flag to the premiers.

I can't remember if it was '43 or '44, Norwood/North finished the minor round 4th (bottom), then went on to win the flag.
