Horror stories

Postby redden whites » Fri Dec 23, 2005 2:38 pm

Merry xmas sanfl footy followers..was wondering if anyone could beat my horror story or add one of there own? Pretty sure it was 2004 and I got a call out at work so couldn't make it to Prospect.I was consoled by the fact that both the Roosters and the Hawks were televised on that Saturday arvo so did the drive through thing , left the boots at the back door and positioned myself in front of the telly.....Roosters up 4 goals to 1 kicking into the breeze against the Eagles---BEAUTY,Hawks up by 48pts moments before half time against Richmond----How friggin good is this. What followed is etched in my memory forever .North kick 2 for the rest of the match and get belted by 12 goals I reckon(no doubt someone will have the exact score)and the Hawks make history by losing by 62 pts i think with 1 second half goal
Thats while i was watching between both games a 28 goals to 3 turnaround from the moment I turned it on...sheer horror

Isn't it funny how that works sometimes....? Sometimes you turn it on and the other team starts kick'n goals... Flick the station over and while your not watch'n it, your team starts to come good...? Makes you think doesn't it.......!
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...

I think you are actually referring to Round 5 2003.

Round 5 2003:
Eagles 2.0 11.3 13.6 19.10 (124)
North 4.5 5.6 8.8 9.9 (63)
Prospect, 2265

Round 5 2003:
Richmond 2.3 8.3 15.5 18.7 (115)
Hawthorn 8.3 12.6 12.8 14.11 (95)
M.C.G, 45140

Both were on the Saturday afternoon, and both were televised.

As a North and Hawthorn supporter i do remember the day very well. I was at Prospect and listening to the radio of the Hawthorn game.

Unfortunetly i am not smoking what redden whites is as it must be some good sh*t to lose 9 years like that

R5 SANFL would be R6 AFL though, wouldn't it?

The game against West at Footy Park in '94 when we were up by ten goals...

And LOST!

Scott friggin' Simister.

Also, the game against an West (again) at Richmond in '83 when we were cruising by 4-5 goals with about ten minutes to play...

And LOST!

That loss, which was also Craig Bradley's last game for the season for us with seven minor round games to go, effectively ended our season.

Sometimes that is the case i.e. between the state game and the split round of the AFL, but this time it was on the same round number and same day, 26th of April.

Thanks Wedgie, I'm pleased to help out any way I can.

I was looking for the games that reddenwhites stated, and I couldn't find any around that time. Then I remembered about the 2003 game at Prospect; I was there that day and the scores were roughly to that description. (I also remember it being on TV as well) Then I checked the newspaper I have got from that round to see if the Hawks played Richmond - and they did.

Christ, I can't even remember my middle name, it always amazes me when people like you, Leaping Lindner, McAlmanac, Phil, etc can remember games like that.

As a Sturt & Crows man I quickly recall June 15 1996. Sturt had some wins in 1996 and were playing West at Adel Oval and were considered a good chance and led by 26 pts at half time. Meanwhile, in Melb the Crows led Hawthorn by 39 pts during the 2nd qtr, having responded to all the critics that they could play well in Melbourne after all. So I was a happy chappy eating my half time pie at Adel Oval. Went home an hour later - Crows down to Hawthorn by 9 pts (Dunstall 9 goals) and Sturt lost to West by 45 pts, ensuring that Sturt were well and truly set to collect their 8th consecutive wooden spoon !!

How about a coupla years ago at Arctic Park. Eags V Panthers. Eags leading most of the day till Panthers coming home strong in the last quarter. With only a few minutes to go Shane Ellen runs into an open goal, the Goal Umpire makes a save and kicks the ball back into play. Eags win by 3-4 points.

Even the Eagles supporters were speechless.

Back in the mid 80's (either 83 or 84), port got beaten by south when Darren Harris kicked that long goal (i think after the siren). On the same weekend Greg Phillips was playing for Collingwood and kicked across the goal with only a few minutes remaining, there was a turnover and the other team scored and finished up winning (i was a collingwood supporter back then, mainly because of Phillips and Abernethy etc playing for them, i have since seen the light however).
