I've often wondered what a best of team would look like by surname. By that I mean, a team of 'A's, 'B's etc. Obviously the first place to start is A, and here are all of the names to choose from:

Yeah there doesn't seem to be that many options, only other candidate on your list is Gary Argus.

Paul Arnold probably a good candidate for FB.

Richard Anderson played State of Origin in the mid 80's so would probably get a position on one wing, with his namesake Greg on the other.

I'll have a go, but this is a difficult exercise having not seen all the players of yesteryear, so the temptation is to go for players you've seen. Also, there will be a tendency to pick players from your own club because you know more about them than the others.

Fair enough. When selecting the side, there was plenty of defensive talent but I needed to balance the forward structure. I considered Greg Anderson would be more able to kick goals than the other two. I saw Anderson play some very good football at HF early in his career at Port Adelaide.
