Winners of The reserves Magarey and Seniors Magarey Medal

Postby Strawb » Thu Oct 11, 2007 2:10 pm

I am just wondering how many players have done this double or has any player won a medal in all four grades?

Gary Window has the Reserves/League double.

I don't think anyone has all 4, but I am sure there are others with 2.

Justin Casserly won a juniors and two reserves medals (one with Centrals, one with North).

Is that right?

In the VFL (off topic I know, but impressive nonetheless) Tony Liberatore won all three.

Cass may have won a 19's medal, but am pretty certain he won a reserves medal with both Centrals and North.

Bob Simunsen (Woodville) got the Tomkins (1959); Reserves twice (1961,62) and was runner up in the league in 1966. Not a bad effort
Jim Deane (South) got the Tomkins (1945) and League (1953 and 1957)
Garry McIntosh (Norwood) got the McCallum (1981) and League (1994 and 1995)

Window and Hodgeman are the only two to get the elusive double if I'm not mistaken.

On a similar tangent was Jason King who won the Reserves Magarey in 1996 with the Eagles and won it again in 1998 with North the only person to win a Reserves Magarey at 2 clubs?

Sorry, wasn't being a smart arse, just thought most would have been aware of it since it was only last decade but North supporters would probably be more aware since his battle out of the reserves side to the premiership side in 1991 was a bit of a fairytale.
Pity he's story turned from a fairytale into a crime book but I won't go there.

On King's record, as mentioned earlier Casserly did it with Centrals/North.

Also, did Phil Lounder do the same?

Good point about Cass, only had a quick glance at my 2004 book of SANFL records that missed that.

Phil Lounder didn't win a medal with North to my knowledge, would have mainly played league IIRC.

Only Glenelg player that won a Reserves Magarey in the 70s was Kym Hodgemen in 1974.
