Port Adelaide Vs East Fremantle

I believe that port adealaide and east fremantle played regular games against each other from about 1910 to the 1950's.

Was wondering if anyone out there knows the results of these matches?

Can tell you that East Freo beat Port by 21 points at the Jubilee Oval in 1909, and that Port beat East Freo over there, 6.10 to 5.4, in 1910. Don't know if they ever met again as it was a very costly and time-consuming exercise (much more so than today after allowing for inflation), they certainly weren't regular opponents in the 50's.

There was one game in the mid-50s when Port came from seven goals down to beat East Freo in Perth by a few points.

IIRC, both had just won the premiership.

The previous week Port had either beaten a Tasmanian premier or had a close loss to Melbourne (?) under lights.

Anyway, Fos rewarded the players by treating the trip to Perth as a holiday.

But at three-quarter time, that killer winning instinct took over.

"Look fellas, I know I said we could take it easy but..."

Port travelled to WA in 1913 and played 2 games. On July 12. EF 7.6. defeated Port 5.12. A week later Port defeated a combined WA team 11.19 to 6.10.
Other SA clubs to a make the journey to WA in those early years include Norwood in 1914, Sturt in 1920, West Adelaide in 1922 and North in 1924. I know Port made the trip again in the late 1930s, but I'll have more info when I scan Budgets for that particular year soon.
I have match reports from those early games, so I'll post them in the near future as well. Most of the reports feature team line ups and a write up about the match.

is it an interesting concept having wafl and sanfl teams play against one another?

wonder if ever it would be possible to have the premiers face off at the end of each season.like it seems to be in the early 1900s

Have suggested this idea several times now also! Would be a great way to open the season!

The 1913 date is incorrect! I know they played in 1913 but haven't fixed the date up as yet (I need to verify when it was)
