Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

RIP Peter Hargreaves

Postby trev » Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:59 pm

Saw in todays Tiser that 70's Sturt star Peter Hargreaves passed away on Tues aged 52.

As a kid I saw him play a couple of times and remember him as pretty uncompromising.

Sad news that caught a few people by surprise. 52 is way to young. :(

Peter had a massive heart attack and subsequent car accident that caused major injuries

He has done it tough in the past few years with his wife suffering and beating bouts of cancer. As he did in his football, he just helped her take on the challenge and beat it with little fanfare.

For a bloke that looked so hard, he was one of the best blokes you could ever meet.

RIP Peter - the world is a lesser place this week

RIP Peter and condolensces to his family.

This is very sad, and he's another former Doubles Blues player with Brendon Howard and Kym Smith, who has passed away way too young.

very sad news, I hope the club turn it on for him next week on and off the field. Well done Barto and Bayman.

Hargreaves was one of the legends of my childhood. I remember hearing his name called on the radio before I even began going to the footy. He was a part of the era where I was totally awed by the spectacle of footy, and the strength of our team which often trounced sides in front of huge crowds. I realised that he was a part of the immediate history of the Blues, his career reaching just beyond the years I first became literate of the game, in seasons I only heard about from my elders. I wrote his name on my school bag alongside the likes of Graham, Craig, Motley and Davies.
Those were the days that the Blue I'd carry around for the rest of my life was forged in my bones. He played a big part in that.
R.I.P Big fella.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
