Stringers in the SANFL...

Postby The Apostle » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:40 pm

Following on from my "Kerleys in the SANFL" thread in Spellys forum...

I noticed in that list of all the players who have played SANFL in Spellys forum that 10 Stringers (IIRC) played SANFL league footy at some stage. I'm after any information on them such as who's who, games played etc.

I'm interested in them as i'm a bit of a family history nut and 5 of my Great Grandfathers cousins either married or married into the Stringer family (circa around WW1ish). Those 5 were all brothers and sisters (2 brothers and 3 sisters)!!! Also, when the wife of one of the sons died...what does he do???...marry his first wifes sister!!! So thats marriage to a Stringer number 6!!!

Hope you all understand that (I typed up a longer post previous to this one but lost it when the forum asked me to Log In which i'd already did!

Got some info on kelly and Dean. Will get back to you when I dig it up. Are they actually related to you? 'Cos we didn't think Dean and Kelly were related. :?

I just had a look at my family history notes that has something to do with the Stringer family...As far as those 3 sisters who married Stringers, I haven't got a lot. All i've got is the birth, death and marriage information for them, their husbands and their children and nothing after that.

Question: Does anyone know where these Stringers came from??? What part of S.A. or interstate???

As a side note: About 10 years back I was playing Basketball up at the Golden Grove Rec Centre and we had this new player who's last name was Stringer join our team. His Dad became coach of our team. Turns out our new coach's Grandmother was one of those 3 sisters.

Kelly Stringer is from the Cowell/Cleve region on the West Coast of SA.
Dean I am not sure about but I thought he was a local Adelaide boy.
