SANFL, VFL & WAFL Crowd Figures

Howdy, doing an essay on the AFL's affect on local footy.

Does anyone have most of the crowd figures for each in the consecutive years before and after the AFL came about?

It can be in any form, yearly or matchly either way it's very helpful.

I'll present them in code format so you can just copy and paste these into your own Excel file - it will tab out into seperate columns like you have seen with other Excel snap shots I have posted. The VFL/AFL crowds you can find on http://www.afl.has.it and as for the WAFL, there would be someone from WA you would need to contact - I know they would have this info somewhere; finding it is something I'm not sure about.

Note: I am missing 1 match from 1970 and 17 from 1974. From 1992 to 1999 the curtain raisers are excluded, hence the lower game figures.
The number of such matches are as follows:

1994: 5

1997: 8
1998: 3
1999: 2

This years' finals crowds are for the first week only so far.

check the university of south australia library (Mawson Lakes campus I think).

RMIT centre for Economics and Finances released a working paper titled 'Attendance patterns at Victorian and South Australian Football Games' by Mark Stewart and Peter Fuller (1993)

It compatres crows figures with population trends. This paper is worth reading....

The state library has copies of the football times yearbook, which included crows figures for the VFL, SANFL. WAFL and TANFL up until the late 1980s.

a lot of people blame the Eagles for recent poor attendances in the finals. The data shows a steep decline since Port Power joined the AFL.

The SANFL still had decent coverage in the media - print and television before the Power. But once the Advertiser became tabloid instead of broadsheet (end of 1997), it became easier to condense the SANFL sections.
