:D
From a selfish point of view I'm with 'rogernumber10'. The years 1975 - 1984 were just magic.
Having moved to Adelaide in 1967, the joy of success was truly magnified by the 7 or 8
preceding years of dismal, soul destroying premiership drought. 25 years for some.
Anyone can jump on board a winning club’s success, but you’re not doing yourself any favours.
Not if you want real euphoria and crystal clear, long lasting, very satisfying memories.

It's so much better to support a team that's stone motherless last and see them hurt and bleed
with slow & sometimes imperceptible improvement. Player by player, game by game, year by
year, until 'your club' finally reaches the pinnacle. If that's not what it's all about, I give up!
I honestly still tingle with memories of '75, but it wouldn't be so special without what went before.
Or the efforts of your opponents.

In truth, does your favourite year, decade or century really matter ?
When you walk into 'your ground' and see friends and acquaintances you've known for years, not
only from your club, but opposition clubs, doesn’t the camaraderie, the leg pulling and friendly
banter with friend or foe make every game of every season the best.
Don't you love those few seconds before the first bounce down of a new season ?
That delicious uncertainty of what fortunes the year ahead may hold.

When I walk past the players race at Norwood, heading for my favourite spot, the smell of
liniment wafts up through the vents above the change rooms and charges the imagination.
What magic is going to happen out there today? What pain? What pleasure? What history is
going to be made, written about, remembered, but more importantly …… shared ?

With every match a microcosm of all life’s emotions is about to unfold for the price of a few
dollars and you wouldn’t be dead for quids.

Cheers n beers,
:drinkers:

LOL My old-man started following them in 1951, due to my grandpa having played a bit with them (not much) and the area he grew up in .. He was truly Norwood born and bred, and I'd imagine given the success post WWII up til then, probably thought that success was a formality .. Everytime I watch that 75 Grand Final I always think of him and his "tears for joy" as he's always told me, when the final siren sounded, and find it hard not to get a bit emotional.

(As a sidenote, my old man must be an unlucky bastard like that as he reckons he once went to an Ashes test where England lost only the one wicket for the day, and it was the only ball he missed viewing   )

I think that pretty much sums up the feeling about the 1975 premiership win to all us "old time" Norwood supporters who followed the club through the fruitless 1960s (some through the 50s), the wooden spoon of 1968, then the steady progression to the ultimate prize.

It was, as other Redlegs testify, a very emotional day and easily my fondest memory in football.
