I couldn't believe the news. Saw him at Woodville Oval about 18 months ago and he looked "recently retired".

Sensational pics. I reckon it's Wally May in the background of the second one.

The game gave people what they wanted to see.

See big Wally May looking on in the 2nd photo? What an imposing figure he looked :)

Sadly, I missed Don Lindner's days of true sky-scraper marks, but saw the final years of his career when he was still a brilliant and athletic footballer.

"The Don" really does look an awesome sight in full flight.

Can anyone identify which ovals they are in each of the photos?

Pic 1 should be Norwood Oval (the top of the school builing in the background)
Pic 2 is Unley Oval I would think, once again judging from the hills in the background
Pic 4 is Adelaide Oval, as a matter of fact I would think it is the 1963 Grand Final

Not certain of Pic 3, but I am guessing Thebarton Oval. I'm thinking the opposition is West Torrens and North are wearing black shorts indicating it's an away game.

Using the shorts theory, I think the first pic is Prospect. The mound on the outer is to steep for the Parade.

Pic 2 definitey Unley. Pic 4 definitely a final at Adelaide Oval.

My first thought re pic 3 is Thebarton but wouldn't bet on it if someone else had other views.

I'll go for Nwd,Unley,Thebby & Adel Ovals - the last pic is from either the 67 or 68 Prelim Final and I've seen that pic in a Footy World newspaper at that time.

1. Is Prospect Oval 31/8/1957 NA 9-11 vs Nd 9-22
2. Is Unley Oval. Not sure of exact match. Lindner is still #12 and as Wally May is playing it could be between 1954 and 1957. Don debuted in 1954.
3. Is Thebarton Oval 31/5/1958 NA 13-23 vs WT 11-9
4. Is Adelaide Oval (1967 Prelim) NA 6-11 vs PA 7-13

Fantastic pics of a real champion. Remember his droppies as well, big right hand arc and BANG. True champ and true individual.
