I assume this has been done before, but in light of Adam Cooney winning the 'VFL' Medal...

How many players from EACH SANFL Club from say 2000, have been AFL listed / drafted???

E.g. Westies '03 GF side had plenty...

And without wanting to remove any of the 'gloss' from Centrals' Premierships, in relation to other clubs what is their % of players lost to the 'elite' competition???

It might make for interesting reading, considering their dominance over this decade?

A factor will also be if they were drafted to the Power and Crows, thus potentially not lost to the club in the local league, depending on how often they play for their local team. Brad Symes for example wasn't "lost" to us last year but was this year. Whereas Grima and Obst were only rookie listed this year and we lost them both.
I'd much rather the players get drafted to Adelaide or Port with the chance of playing for us still, whilst being paid by the AFL club.

I think, (only from memory) we lost the second most amount of players interstate over the last ten years. Second to Westies. Not necessarily drafted, but drafted interstate.
Centrals would also have picked up the least number of "draftees" in the internal draft i.e Crows/Power interstate recruits. I'd be guessing the Eagles would be second, due their success.

Before I answer, would you only want the players that are still interstate, because there are a number of variables in the question, some of which sjt has mentioned. Also, you have to consider if the player has come back to the club - delisted from an interstate club; or has returned to SA, but is a regular for either the Crows or Power.

If they had returned to SA to play for the Crows or Power they would still be "AFL listed / drafted" as per LEH's original question.
"players lost to the 'elite' competition" also does not exclude Crows or Power listed players.

Again, Ian there is two ways of looking at it. I'd debate Johnathon Giles has been lost to the elite competition. Though drafted, he has played league/reserves all year for us. Hence his drafting has had no negative impact on the club. It would have to be looked at drafted to interstate clubs and just drafted. The second scenario takes into account all those players drafted to Port and the Crows and who have played predominantly for those clubs, the Johncocks, Burgoynes, Biglands, Porplyzia etc etc who are in effect "lost" from their local clubs.
