I was actually buying a copy of the Budget from this game today at "At the Toss of a Coin" when into the shop walked none other than David Granger! (That was the game in which he KO'd Cornesy for those who don't remember.)

In hindsight, I should have asked him to sign the Budget, but I wasn't game to admit to him that I was a Glenelg supporter! He was actually very interested in all the old memorabillia there, and bought a few old Budgets himself.

Been to a lot of games since the '82 Prelim but nothing has come close to the atmosphere in the crowd that day.

Not even the 1990 Grand Final.

1982 Preliminary Final was the first game that I ever went to. I was seated behind the Glenelg Cheer squad in the covered concourse area with my big brother, who barracks for the Bays. Sturt played in the reserves that day, and I remember there being a Sturt flag in amongst all that yellow and black getting waved about every time Glenelg did something good.
It was probably the best game to have as a first. So many things happened, though some players names have been replaced by the phrase "that dude" as I was pretty young at the time.
Seeing Granger run onto the field as a wave of booing swept the ground, him gettng clocked by Cornes and then flattening old skeletor in return.
The Port team forming a huddle and seemingly belting each other up at the start of the second half.
Granger breaking that dude's leg.
Amazing snap over the head by that Port dude as he was outnumbered 2 to 1 to bring Port back to within a point late in the game.
Seeing the Port dude in front of me getting whacked over the head by the old Glenelg supporter behind me for supporting his team.
Also a significant game as it put an end to Port's golden streak of premierships, and the last game John Halbert won as Glenelg coach.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail
