Anything to do with the history of the SANFL

Michael Flynn 1996 NAFC

Postby Sojourner » Wed Jul 16, 2008 8:13 pm

Going over the NAFC website and looking at the list of coaches recorded there, I noted that Michael Flynn is listed as having coached for a single season.

Just wondering what was the circumstance that resulted in Michael Flynn not continuing on with the Club?

mmmm interesting story - I will leave his story to someone else.

Suffice to say Flynn was Nunan's hatchett man during Nunan's reign.

As a coach he got the team fit .... but the rest - well I'll leave that for others to comment.

Some of his history:
played reserves and league ??? for Woodville in early 80s
moved to North as football manager under Nunan
high perfoamance cycling coach in Australia
reserves player NAFC
Senior coach NAFC
high performance diving coach in NZ
Hawaiian tri-athlete

Woodville League early to mid 70's - I can't be arsed hauling out the documentation, but about 20-30 games. Debuted as a 17 year old.

A monument to self importance.

I've met a few ex SANFL players eg school teachers, who match that description very aptly as well.

I had Flynn as a lecturer at uni at about the time he was coaching North...very interesting cat.
We had former Sturt player James May in our class and IIRC he was the only person Flynn had any time for.

I doubt he'd be a "monument to self importance" like others of more recent times.

I'm thinking of a former SANFL footballer who played for a team based in the eastern suburbs, who was a teacher
