Thing that stands out apart from Ports unbelievable record, is how good Torrens' is.

Second behind Port is a good record for a club that merged...

A number of factors caused that:

-West Torrens lower grades performed well prior to the 1960s, winning a combined total of 23 premierships up to 1959.

This was the most amount of premierships won by the other three grades up to that time:
Torrens 23
Port 16
North 15
Norwood 9
West 6
Sturt 5
Glenelg 3
South 0

Even including the League premierships from 1897 to 1959 shows that Torrens did well:
Port 34
Torrens 27
North 23
Norwood 20
West 12
Sturt 10
Glenelg 4
South 4

But after 1960, most of the wooden spoons were won by Central, South, West or Woodville. West Torrens finished second to last a total of 19 times, which ranks thus between 1960 and 1990 throughout the grades:

South 24
Torrens 19
Woodville 17
Central 16
West 15
North 11
Sturt 10
Glenelg 6
Norwood 3
Port 3

The wooden spoons between 1960 and 1990 between the grades are:
West 30
Woodville 30
Central 18
South 15
Sturt 9
Torrens 9
North 5
Norwood 4
Glenelg 3
Port 1
