spelly/ecky - alledged ommissions in the Media Guide

Postby pipers » Sat Apr 05, 2008 10:10 pm

Hey,

Got chatting today with some guy about the book. Dunno his name - I'm hopeless with that sort of thing...

He said there were a few things that were incorrect or missing. I explained that you would have been relying on records collected by others for a lot of your information, and that errors/ommissions are a part of the territory of historical archives like this...

He suggests 18 reserve flags for Port, rather than 16 and named 1911 as one of those years. He also suggested that Sturt had more than 13 reserves flags and definitely won it in 1913.

He also wanted to see the date for the name change of PAFC to PAMFC recorded as 1995, specifically 24-10-95 (which I believe was the date of the big unveiling of the Power at the Entertainment Centre).

I gave him my postal address and he will send some copies of stuff to verify this. Happy to pass this onto you if you want it when I get it...

That was based on Reserves premiership records from 1919 onwards. Generally you only see Reserves flags in publications from 1919. I'm not too sure why 1919 seems to be the accepted starting point however.

I thought that may have been a factor - or WWI, which of course ended in 1919, so maybe before then records were not well-maintained...

Anyway, when the stuff arrives I'll let you know...

Cool. :) You would be on the money by recordkeeping I think. I'm slowly getting the Reserves scores - back to 1962 at the moment, so I'll eventually get there. ;)

You might like to check (see p 125). I could be wrong

Eagles vs Sturt games played at Woodville
1993 R1 E win
1994 R22 E win
1995 R4 E win
1996 R8 E win
1996 R17 E win
1997 R13 E win
1998 R14 E win
1999 R6 E win
2000 R2 E win
2001 R10 E win
2002 R3 St win
2003 R6 E win
2004 R4 E win
2005 R3 E win
2006 R7 E win
2007 R7 E win

I reckon that adds up to 15 Wins for Eagles 1 for Sturt of 16 played
Also I think the two teams have played 46 times in total, Eagles winning 37, Sturt 9
The last highest losing score for Eagles was 13-5 2003 R14. Eagles won in 2004

On page 154 should the last entry on the Biggest Winning Margin list be Sturt 31 30 161pts

Thanks

Yes, you are all correct with the head to heads. The highest losing score in the book was a winning one.

That line in the biggest winning margin should read 31.20 (206)

And I also noticed the highest score against Sturt at Unley was not updated from last time - the 31.7 (193) score is the new record.

Early on the ressies was known as the 'B' comp and had suburban teams such as Semaphore Central (I think?) play in it.

Dunno, but it might have something to do with it?

Possibly that too. I've never heard a definitive reason why it starts from there, however.
