Given that the current capacity of Adelaide Oval is around 31,000, I would safely say that the crowd would have been no bigger if played at Adelaide Oval - it would have almost certainly been lower, as the recent crowds around the 30,000 mark at Adelaide Oval have included a significant number of people who just sit out the back in the marquees in the members all day - the number in the actual arena at any time would be less than 30,000.

I really don't understand why people think that moving the GF to Adelaide Oval would help the crowds. :?

Agreed 100% and could you imagine what catering would have been like when they don't even cater well for crowds of 10k?

At Footy Pk my kids and wife had seats to sit in with a great view as did most people. Would have been nothing short of horrendous at Adelaide Oval. If they up the crowd capacity to near 40k one day consider it then, until then Adelaide Oval can get stuffed IMHO.

In fact I'd go one step further, no SANFL games should be played at Adelaide Oval until they lift their standards to the 20th century (yes I know we're in the 21st century but I'm not pushy). Get rid of the double headers and play 2 finals at suburban grounds in the first 2 weeks of the finals at the highest placed team on the ladder's home ground. Crowds would improve and facilities (except for Glenelg's toilets) would be better.

Those old barman under in the scoreboard bar at Adelaide Oval " thimble of beer that's $4.00 mate". It should not be allowed to happen.

Adelaide Oval would be very uncomfortable with 30,000 , a lot of standing , OK for me not so good for children or shorter people.

I can still see 35,000 crowds at the grand final which can't be catered for at Adelaide Oval. You just need any of our top say six crowd pulling sides back in a Grand Final after their fans have had to wait a long for some success playing each other. This year we had one side North coming back and the crowd increased by 5,000 from last year.

I support playing the minor SANFL finals at the neutral inner city grounds that create the best atmosphere my favourites being Prospect ,Glenelg , Norwood and I would add Unley but concerns about crowds over 5,000 and Richmond/Thebbie could be OK but not my choice.

5,000 or 6,000 at the above grounds has supporters shoulder to shoulder and a finals atmosphere is created.

Qld Cup is Rugby League, Premier Rugby is union

In the eastern States, "Rugby" is Union unless said otherwise.

Rugby League is called League.

Huge difference in those figures there Phil. We have about a thrid or a quarter of Vic's population yet draw more than double to our Grand Final. Then WA also has a larger population than us and we draw a 50% larger crowd than them.
I think it goes in order of how far removed we are from our halycon days of the best leagues in our respective states. The competition currently known as the VFL never was the best comp' in Victoria, so their current crowd figures are not showing any "inherited" inflation. The WAFL said goodbye to their no 1 in WA status a few years earlier than the SANFL and I guess that their crowds are in a more advanced state of decline.
Having said that, I remember that the SANFL was always better attended than the WAFL, so there may be a chance that we prevent the erosion of numbers better than they have.
I agree with a previous poster, give a couple of our traditional crowd pullers a belated grand final berth eg. Glenelg and Norwood, and I reckon at least 35,000 would turn up, possibly more.
I'm gonna sit back, crack the top off a Pale Ale, and watch the Double Blues prevail

Doubt it would help increase the crowd numbers, but would help increase the atmosphere.

Leave the GF at Footy Park... 30 000 at Adelaide Oval is horrendously uncomfortable. Never mind the sub standard bar service...

Well obviously it's concentrated at the AFL level

That's where ALL the exposure and interest is.

Same for the Rugby League really, the state league final for that didn't draw a great crowd either.

Yes, Qld remains a Rugby heartland, but the interest and participation in Aussie Rules is significant.

This table would probably be the same if it had the heading of State League sporting Grand Finals (not just footy)

Shows how special and unique the SANFL is.

Take the GF from Footy Pk and we are only a decade away of playing the GF at Thebbie Oval. Anything that belittles, moves away from tradition or creates a perception that the SANFL is minimising or reducing exposure and professionalism of this comp will lead to it's demise and relegation of importance. Therefore, the clubs that built footy pk (all SANFL clubs) must continue to hold it's premier event, the grand final, at the headquarters of the SANFL not the head office of the SACA or any suburban ground.

Whilst not a fan of Footy Park, it is currently the only venue that can facilitate the SANFL GF- any other suggestions are romantic idealisms.

Originally I favoured Adelaide Oval, but after attending this years GF, I think Footy Park is the better choice.
What is important, is getting a decent price set for a carpark (or get there early  ), making sure catering is not too obscene,
and making the admission price more reasonable.
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated
