WTF ? You're a one eyed North supporter you clown...

grew up baracking for the maggies, loved them with a passion, until that fateful day that i became a roosters player and knocked the maggies off in a under 17 GF in 87

You played with some mighty fine footballers, but very few who made their mark with North.

I believe that Wayne Carey, Adrian McAdam, Shane Tongerie and Steven Hamilton all played AFL from that Under 17s side. In addition Chris Threadgold, Jason Spehr, Rick McGowan, David Kupsch, John Timms, Darren Reeves, Scott Norton and Greg Kavanagh all played SANFL with varying degrees of success. And I have probably missed a couple. It is incredible compared to how many league players normally came from an Under 17 side in those days. I think that Port had a few handy footballers too, including Simon Tregenza, Darren Mead and ironically Michael Dittmar junior who ended up at North.

I was on number 8 then number 1 as captain, but this guy at work has an old lace up magpies guernsey with number 3 on the back. He swears it was for Bucky Cunningham. Did he wear number 3 before taking on number 8

I've been led to believe that but honestly you can't tell because he was so good with either foot
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

RIG. spot on there mate some fine footballers in this team. There was another 3 or 4 tealcup players from this team that didnt play league footy. Craig Hahn captained SA in 88, Craig Bradbrook was the Captain of North team and from memory he captained the 15s state side in 86. Some reason there wasnt to many to make there mark in the league side. The league team was obviously strong thru this period ,this side played a fair bit of footy together from 86 to 89. Think Nunan at the time didnt handle the group of kids very well. Quite a few players played some SAFA and Amaetuer league footy. Port also had some great players as did Glenelg and Norwood, Torrens had alot of boys who ended up playing for henley. Big Night after the league won the 87gf think that night was the start of really following the Roosters.

Spot on with that. Nunan did not handle the young players well and as a result of our coach being a a former Nth Player was able to secure a lot of young lads coming out of the U/19's and reserves who were disenchanted with what was happening at North at the time. I could quite confidently say that every one of those players won at least one premiership at Broadview if not multiple flags.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

Randall Gerlach was a bit before my time, but I know Bomber Clifford wore 3 from about '78 until his retirement. I reckon Andrew Obst wore #3 after Bomber vacated the guernsey. A couple of lesser knowns who wore #3 after Obst went to Melbourne, but didn't play many games were Steve Hutton (brother of David & a Stawell Gift winner) and Mark Dittmar. Went to high school (briefly) with both Hutts & Ditts.

Great player and career Cunningham - just a shame he left the club as a player under strained circumstances over money.
Least he came back to the fold in the end.

Was only 31.

Probably had another couple of years left.

Wish he'd come back again...
