Stephen Knight

I have just started reading 'Heritage' by Chris Niehus and the first chapter mentions the late Stephen Knight.
This one escaped me.
Can anyone enlighten me as to what happened to him?
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Pretty sure it was cancer?

Had a great first year in '84, kicking 37 goals from half-forward.

Sacked early in '86 after punching on with teammates at a pub.

Apparently over his girlfriend.

Last game was a cracker. Kicked a crucial goal late against Glenelg in a big come from behind win. Young Port team won by two goals.

Surprised he wasn't picked up by another club at the time...

Maybe not at 3 qtr time, but Glenelg's quarter time lead was significant.

And against the reigning premier!

Except for maybe our eight point win against North.

Probably our best win that year...

I can vaguely remember being at this game as a kid. A strange incident remains in my mind but perhaps I am mistaken. Kicking to the school end in the last 1/4, Bays player kicked a straight set-shot at goal, but Peter Carey jumped at it and just touched it, so only a point at a pretty critical time. Could Carey have misjudged it due to the strong wind? Does anyone recall this?
