I’m guessing someone has already raised this online… I just had Cornesy read this out on air... but look at 1919 in the SANFL…

FINALS
CF Sturt 3 5 23 d North Adelaide 2 6 18
CF Sturt 5 9 39 drew North Adelaide 5 9 39
GF North Adelaide 6 2 38 d West Torrens 5 3 33
GF North Adelaide 2 3 15 drew West Torrens 2 3 15
2S West Torrens 9 5 59 d Port Adelaide 5 5 35
1S North Adelaide 7 18 60 d Sturt 3 5 23
As you can see, Sturt lost it’s first final and was eliminated and North Adelaide went on to play Torrens in the GF and draw and then win the replay. But, since Sturt finished minor premier, they could challenge North and play off in a Challenge Grand Final, which they did, drew it, then won the replay, giving Sturt the premiership rather than North.
So North miss out on the flag they won I reckon...
