Port Pirie trots

Race 2 dividends

1.30 win
REFUND PLACE

As I understand it , and how its been explained , is that whoever backed the winner for a place , had the bet annulled and refunded.

IS THIS WHAT HAPPENED ?
The place pool was $1317
Less commissions of say about 20% leaves a pool of just over $1050
It looks like most of the place money invested was on the hot fav, Freds A Safari
The $1050 must be split 3 ways for 3 dividends
The split for Freds A Safari prob equated to a dividend of less than $1-00 [most prob about $0-75-$0-85 cents]

So it appears that Unitab has refunded monies on the fav for this reason
That's a good deal if you backed it
Rather than risking your money for a $1-00 div, you get a refund
Seems a sporting deal, I must say given the particular circumstances

BUT
Its a lottery
Race 7 , same meeting
Lombo Del Rosso , the other shorty for the day had a declared div of $1-00 , money back
No such REFUND
Back this nag , and its unplaced , ya do ya money cold

OTHER TABS
The $1.00 money back by Unitab has been a bit of a miff and considered a rip off by many punters
Supertab and NSW consistently give a $1-04 minimum return on shorties
They do have a $1-00 return , when an exceptional amount is invested on a runner

REFUND
I've seen it another time as a div on Unitab , had thought it was a typo error or whatever
Is this REFUND div a gimmick of sorts to attract place punters on shorties?

REFUND why is it so ?

There is no difference between paying $1.00 or issuing a refund!!!

If it's unplaced, you've done your money as well. No different to the $1.00 dividend.

I will elaborate
$1.00 div = bet on irrespective if it places on unplaces
REFUND dividend = your bet is cancelled, no matter where the runner finishes

In essence REFUND means
Cant lose , cant win , the bet is off
Better than the $1-00 div , where you cant win , but can lose

Ok, so they void the bet, seems an interesting method.

Lets assume you want to back a roughie in the race. If it places, it might pay say $10s?
If it places and the red hot favourite misses a place, all of a sudden you only get $1.50, cause the bookie gave back all the void bets that otherwise would have been handed out??

Not sure Refund is a good thing overall.

Very very very good point Trader

If the TAB refunds monies on $1-00 favs
This would or could mean the other runners prices might significantly drop
This might or could be happening after youve invested your money

But is the refund declared as soon as they jump or only after the result. Because if it doesn't run a place then fair chance it wouldn't be a declared as a Refund dividend, therefore no difference between $1.00 div or Refund dividend.

Whoever backs anything for a place on the tote is a F******G Idiot anyway. Place dividends are generally a disgrace on the tote and try putting any sort of decent size bet on it and watch what happens.
