long time doubles bookmaker john pope is fielding for the last time at morphettville today, retiring at the ripe old age of 82my memory of going to the track goes back to the early 70s and he has always been there, sadly no more after today

How can ayone be "good to have a little bet with" when they are giving you massive unders ?

He always got a visit from us at Oakbank.. even if the odds are unders, was easier for the Mrs to go down before race 1 and put the doubles on for the day

i too bet with him at oakbank and agree with mt79 about keeping him going, another peice of sa racing consigned to history

Im shocked that he has lasted this long with the MASSIVE unders he gave. Who were the fools that bet with this guy?

well im not a regular race-goer, i go on cox plate and vic derby days, and perhaps one or two other occassions a year max.
I never took doubles everytime but sometimes it was easier to take a double with him rather than line up for the tote girls

biggles....lol..... cant beleive how many hot chips he can eat. Often gets whole chips caught between his teeth.
