BETFAIR on the ropes ?

As of May 1st commission take-outs on BF accounts have increased by about 1.5%
Why ?
Perhaps :
This coincides with a recently lost Federal Court Case involving BF and Racing NSW
As I understand things ,as a result of the Court Loss, BF is now paying whats called a Turnover Fee or Tax of about 1.5% ?
And is this turnover component backdated to whence the Court case started ?
In the past BF was paying a Gross profits fee ?
This is what a BF spokesman had to say about the NSW V BF ruling
"" The 1.5 % fee in NSW made racing in that state 6 times more expensive than racing in Victoria, to an extent where it is worth considering dropping NSW racing completely.""

Mid April
Racing Victoria has decided to sink the boots in as well
RV made an announcement that it will also impose a 1.5 % Turnover bizzo as well
RV has been charging operators at a rate of 10% Gross Profits [ I assume BF included ?}
RV is reported to be saying it will increase the 1.5 % to 2% in the Spring Carnival later this year
As I understand it, the 2% will be charged to all users of the Victorian racing products as well as BF ?

Could this be the beginning of the end for BF in Australia ?
First clue is the May increase in % takings to account holders
What will be next ...

Mal, are you having a crack or genuinely don't understand it?
Betfair put out a fairly clear statement on this matter.

Did you get their email Mal? Spelt it out pretty clearly, while disappointed its only an extra $1.50 per $100 won and it is only on AUS racing, sports and oseas racing is untouched.

Still miles and miles ahead of any other TAB or corporate.

Betfair is taking on traditional bookmakers at their own game by launching a fixed-odds betting service in time for the Euro 2012 football tournament. The betting exchange operator, whose peer-to-peer gambling revolutionised the industry, has long acknowledged that it is at a competitive disadvantage when it comes to offering bets in running or "ante-post" wagers, where traditional bookies can price up an event months before it takes place.

That is because the peer-to-peer betting model generally only builds liquidity close to an event and struggles to offer fast bets "in play" on such things as the outcome of a penalty shoot-out or a Wimbledon tie-break.

By installing its own fixed-odds platform, Betfair believes it can cater for all the betting needs of its 4m customers, who currently place 30pc of their wagers with rivals because of the exchange model's limitations

the rules to live betting look like they will change from currently just being phone bets which again opens up a new market of punters

Where are you hearing this?
I'd love it to happen but am keen not to get my hopes up, as we have been hearing this every 6months or so since I joined the site in 2007.
