Easter Oakbank Meetings chatter and tips

Postby mal » Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:56 am

Are Easter Oakbank Saturday and Monday the best race meetings on the South Australian racing calender ?
Is the Adelaide Cup or the Balaklava Cup meetings better or more entertaining ?

I started going to Oakbank when I wuz living in the 70s, you could say I was hooked on this carnival at an early age
Get there with me mates, the BBQ, a few beers, kick the footy, a few punts, bird watching, always ended up a great day, win draw or lose on the punt
I must say Oakbank are the best meetings to attend in this state

Im kick starting this thread for chatter and tips
Like to read IF anyone thinks Oakbank is the best meeting in South Australia

Might attempt to go up there on Monday. Take G Jr for the first time.

Love it- but havent been for a couple of years, the cost has jumped significantly since I started going. Beers/BBQ/Bets/Babes/Bourbons. Its BBBBBrilliant.

How long until we cant take our booze in? Its almost the last bastion of the BYO.

PS- reakon I could use the letter B any more? 8)

The fields are not better at Clare.

Oakbank is 20 times better than Balaklava.

Obviously just my personal opinion re: Oakbank v Balaklava

I've heard Clare is a great day but have never been. Surely you cannot be serious about it having better fields than Oakbank though??

I agree $30 is getting a bit steep. I think the last two years the price has gone up $10.

Children 13-17 $10
Under 12 free
Family (2 adults, 2 children) $60

I doubt BC will handle Morphetville. I would be laying it with everything I have against our best fillies and mares.

You have got to be kidding don't you mate. BC will not be beaten in Australia she could run on glass and still beat them. Plenty of good horses but none as good as BC!!

Back on topic anyway. Love going to Oakbank on the Saturday but $30 is getting a little ridiculous!! I mean it is just over double that to get into the Melbourne Cup!!

I also heard they are slugging $20 per car on top of those prices- is this true?

You can get 4 Members Tickets ( 1 x Member, 3 x Memebers Guest Tickets) plus a car park for both days.
If all tickets used both days it's just $20 per person inc car park. Pretty good value really!!!
