Harness Racing Scandal

Recognising the need to be very careful with this topic, in terms of naming people who have not been charged as yet - this story continues to grow in the last 72 hours in NSW, with top drivers Greg Bennett, Cameron Fitzpatrick, trainer Dean Atkinson and steward Paul O'Toole joining previously arrested former steward Matthew Bentley in all being arrested relating to allegations of inconsistent drug testing (not testing certain horses), and a large number of suspected "fixed races" over a lengthy period in NSW:

One of the bigger stories to rock the sport in recent years, and certainly not over, with allegations - and just that at this point - that a prominent media identity will join the list in the coming days:

who cares?
99% of punters wouldn't care less.
There's still a winner in every race and the Tabs still pay out the same amounts % wise every race.
I'm not for a minute endorsing whats going on but i just dont think the average punter cares.
They will always lose regaurdless of wether the sport is clean or corrupt.
Also dont think for a minute this corruption doesn't occur in the Gallops or Greyhounds as well.

i beg to differ, in an ideal world, yes it would be great if everything was sqeaky clean but in reality the same 97% of punters that lose overall will continue to lose overall regaurdless whether races are rigged or not.
Also punters benefit from backing the the winning horses in the rigged races as well, so it works both ways.
Yes. the crooks need to be weeded out for the integrity of the sport but for the average punter,
it's a storm in a teacup.

PUNTING POCKET
What JJ is trying to say, is that punters should not be necessarily bitter over this
As he said, sometimes punters are on these winners , other times not
Our punting careers would not be too affected by rigged races over a long period of time

OWNERS AND TRAINERS
JJ overlooks one factor
Owners and trainers have investments in their horses
The horses need to win X amount of races to show an overall profit
Rigged winning horses connections are taking away potential income from the good guys

DO THE CRIME DO THE TIME
What the riggers have done has been done
They have been caught and will suffer the consequences
JJ has posted they need to be weeded out, I think we all agree with this

The mug punters maybe.

But what about the learned punters here that do form guides and study and all that stuff? They get royally shafted.

I'm a mug punter but any form of corruption in any form of sport at any level is really bad.

I don't care, as long as I get told what horse is juiced up and going to be test free

i think punters do care
surely u want races run on merit and not fixed so a privileged few can profit
