Gramel Series

Has the Gramel Series become a farce ? seems to me that the money on offer is not nearly enough to entice quality trotters to compete. Pretty much the same old local trotters going around, can this industry afford the huge drop in turnover in running so many trotters races for 2 weeks ?

The Tatts turnover on some of those trot races last night was laughable  well more laughable than usual anyway.

About time the Gramel Series got the chop :axe:

TROTTERS
One thing to read form, another to try and work out if a horse will break or not
No amount of studying helps when trotters break, or when a notoroius breakers step and trot throughout
Im reticent to bet at all on the usual 1 trotters race on a weekly basis in SA
Currently with this series on, there are lots of trotters races on

IRONMAN
Must admit my turnover was wayyyyyy down on what i turnover norMALly for a Saturday night
Quite truthfully I wont bother even studying next weeks races if they havem again

WHERE + WHEN
Im of the opinion that that all trotters races should be programmed in race 1 or race 8
It really irks me when they are legs of quaddies and trebles

GRAMEL SERIES
Hard enough to evaluate the local form, and in this series the interstate nags that come over
Makes punting nightmarish
But I do understand that people do have trotters and must run them

Well ya's arn't the only ones - race 6 was a 12 horse trot field, no short faves and the win pool was a poultry 8k. Race 7 was the premier trot race of the night the 3yo oaks it was a 10k race and the win pool was an embarassing  5k. How in gods name can this industry NOT go broke if it puts up 10k to get back what ? i think its about 5% isnt it, thats 5% of the total turnover for that race which was about 11k including places/tri's etc, now I'm no mathematician but thats about $550 bucks back for their 10k outlay and that doesnt even include the cost of running the race.

Now is that how you would run a business ????

Todays programme
8 races
5 trotters races
3 pacers races

A lot of the trotters are backing up after Saturday night
Unitab form for the Saturday runners are not included in the formbanks as I post
The haness websites have not got any Saturday night runs listed in formbanks

As 4 me
Im not a well credentialled professional punter, but I try and be
I do watch the tapes of each meeting for future reference
However I just cant be f...d reviewing all the saturday form for todays runners
I aint got the time and inclination
AND
Guess which 5 races I wont be betting on today ....

Not at all, but they should never run more than one trot race per meeting and when they do it should be the last race therfore doing the least damage as far as turnover goes

Im another who had Saturday night off because of the 5 Trot races

2 or 3 years back I argued with the Chief Steward about running "B" grade Trotters races in legs of the Quaddies as I thought like others that they should be on races 1, 2 or 8. He argued and said whats wrong with race 7 as its not a Unitab quaddie leg and told me he didnt give a stuff about interstate quaddie legs as it was no benefit to SA.

After enquiring about promoting Globe Derby with interstate punters who take quaddies etc. the old Coot who was formerly from Victoria, just laughed it off and said its not my problem

Dont forget we also still have the Monte to come this week where the horses are ridden but surely that wont be a leg of anything !!!!!!!

I'm sure the owners of these trotters would love to be out in the cold every meeting while they watch some skunk pacers race in the first seven races of the meeting.

Well run them b4 the 1st then, just get them out of the way so the real horses can race.

Let me guess thats no good either too many owners of trotters have bingo commitments at the local RSL :(

Maybe their should be an increase in money for the series to attract interstate horses,Vic run a very successful Redwood carnival at Maryborough each year.I dont see the problem running the series each year at Globe Derby and if you dont bet on trotters races, one week out of 52 shouldnt be a problem.
