HRSA has announced the banning of BYO grog to the Trots


THE CLUB
From the clubs point of view they sell grog, so why should patrons bring in grog to a liscensed premise
It was the same principle apllied when Pilko the pasty man was told not to sell his pastries outside the track entrances
HRSA representative Richard Noble quotes as saying the grog at GDP is one of the cheapest in the area
Also he has stated there have been some behavioural incidents on the lawns in the past
Noble also states that other venues like Morphetville and Adelaide Oval do not allow eskys in

THE CROWDS
Its been a tradition of sorts for some to get to GDP for the summer carnival, in particular for the Pacing Cup in January
New people attend this time of the year, as do people who come for this meeting/carnival only
One of the reasons is its a night out with a picnic type set up to eat, and to eskytise the night with grog

Agreed. If Oakbank did this there would be half the people attending that as well.

Means no need to organise a bus to GDP in early Jan....

Hard to say good decision or not i always thought it was great for people to take eskies in,but with the club losing money its understandable.

Agree completely with the above comments.

Just spoke to a mate who only goes to the Cup meeting each year but is in a group of about 10, that wont be going now.
- They are not avid punters but enjoyed the evening without getting ripped off by buying grog and the ladies loved bringing their champers and orange juice etc etc.

Ive no doubt CROWDS will be DOWN

i think you'll find it also has something to do with the old 'occ/safety' garbage, the big crowd adds to the atmosphere etc but if half the crowd turn up at least you'll be able to get a bet on without having to use the mobile to do so, doesn't worry me though as i don't drink


ps, i don't understand why this is news as the gurus been telling everyone every week for about 6 weeks on 5rph

I organise a group of about 10-20 people for the summer carnival
The kids like the rides and aniMALs and the entertainment
The adults bring thier grog/tucker for a picnic on the lawns [grog just a few tinnies]
Most of them are just having a night out
Some of them play the pokies
Some have a few bets
Some drink in the bars as dont bring the eskys

Theres a few dollars spent at the club
The group always has a good night out
Itsa win win situation


Of the group theres a couple of guys that will have a few beers via the esky
Dunno how they will re-act when I tell them

THE BIG PROBLEM
Bayman has mentioned its not news as the 5rph crew have mentioned it
But Bayman how many once a year punters listen to the show ?
The big problem I envisage will be the people who roll up with the Eskys, and being told at the gate.
This will anger some
Some will still attend
Some will walk away
Some may never ever come back to GDP as a result

SUMMARY
This is 2010, not 1975
You need to encourage people to attend
The MATTEE G 's of the world may be lost forever

Yes, taking your own alcohol on track was one of the little things that made it a night out BUT if if that is the sole difference as to whether a person attends or not well the club certainly wont miss them being there.

So JJ harness racing will turn people away at the gates. No wonder the sport is in the state its in!

perhaps the club will put on happy hour on all alcoholic bevvies from 6pm till 10pm

As per usual it will be better off sitting in the lounge, Sky racing on the tube and $100 in the internet/phone account...

someone suggested to me on saturday night that why not have a $10.00 ''corkage fee'' at the gate, so those with eskies that have alcohol in them pay the $10.00

bayman I think whoever suggested the corkage idea, has come up with a compromise that appears to be a winner in my opinion

Went Saturday night to GDP, was very dissapointed when told we couldnt take our esky in.

Was planning a trip their one saturday night with my cricket side after we played at Parafield Gardens, that wont be happening now as most the lads would rather sit at the pub and watch.

Interestingly nearly all their aussie beers were either $5.10 or $5.20 per bottle.

Sorry really it isnt that cheap also getting back $4.90 change every beer was a pain in the arse.

Devonport Cup had a change to there policy yesterday
Cup takes six or one punt on BYO policy
PUNTERS at the upcoming Devonport Cup will have their eskies checked at the gate to make sure they don't over-indulge on alcohol.
Devonport Racing Club CEO Philip Swinton met with the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Branch yesterday to decide if the Devonport Cup would remain a BYO event.

"The new slogan is 'six or one','' Mr Swinton said.

"There will be limited BYO and people can bring a six pack of beer or pre-mixed spirits or one bottle of wine. ''

In previous years punters have lugged Eskies stocked full of alcohol into the Devonport Cup but for the first time ever it will be limited.
Havnt heard much about how it went but seems a reasonable compromise

Without a word of lie
I usually go to Cup night
I go with a group
One of the group contacted me about going
He is an esky taker, and enjoys a few grogs on the hill
I told him about the situation
RESULT : He wont be attending with his family
He punts a few dollars, and his other half plays the pokies

I contacted another person
That person dosent wannago becoz the esky taker is now not going

That also means my clan wont be going

I didnt bother contacting the other family that usually goes

What will I do
Prob organise a couple of the other kids, take them down to GDP as they enjoy the rides and displays
Stay until about 9-00 and then return all the kids
Means that I am supervising, and wont have time to punt

Im hoping the kids dont wannago, so I can stay home,
AND
If I have a beer it will be about 300% cheaper to drink
If I havabet, bet with Betfair/Tattsbet at set odds, Im very very likely to get better than Unitab MOST times
Save admission fees
And most importantly login to SAFOOTY and keep up with all the current affairs
