Its got to be one of the most controversial race meetings ever scheduled
Saturdays Gay and Lesbian race meeting this Saturdays Pink Diamond Day

Staff at the SAJC have copped it already, being abused
Trackside diners have cancelled bookings in protest
Complaints have been made via Email from members
One person abused staff and was alledgedly quoted as saying ""We shouldnt be supporting 'poofters' and things like this - that its not proper
An email sent, alledgedly suggests to promote the appearance of Apache Cat and not a bunch of ''pushers and others dressed in pink.""

SUMMARY
This is a courageous decision by the SACA , full marks for trying something different to get people thru the turnstyles
Indeed they may get a large crowd this weekend, and a short term boost to the club
But the long term ramifications ?
Will regular patrons boycott this meeting, and perhaps future meetings ?
Will this meeting be offputting for non gay/lesbians who attend this meeting
Whatever happens, this promises to be one of the most bizzare race meetings ever held on a SA racecourse meeting

As for me, it would not bother me if I was in attendance on the day
IT never bothered me in the late 70s going to the Buckingham Arms disco either.

Geez some people get carried away .. Same sex isn't my choice of preference either, but I only have the right to make that call for myself and not others.

I would have assumed people attending the races are primarily going there to follow the horses .. How does what happens off the track affect that?

Good on the SAJC for having a go at something different, Im not sure how well it will work but let's face it, given the state of racing in SA they've got to have a crack at anything and everything that might increase attendance, participation and following of the sport in this state.

My brother is gay.... so as long as they do it behind close doors doesnt bother me.
lesbians i dont mind as much... its a good learning curve.
i wonder how big the crowd will be tho this weekend

Well done to the SAJC for trying something different, and for the narrow minded idiots out there, honestly....grow up.

A lot of traditional members are appaled by this decision and I am one of them.
Is this what we have to do to get people to go to the races? Fair Dinkum. I have written a letter of complaint and stated if this day goes ahead I will hand in my membership and never have anything to to with SA racing EVER again. I have several others sending the same email.

The ball is now in the SAJC's court.

the SAJC have to do something to try and encourage patronage as on any run of the mill saturday there is no-one there and the SAJC i believe dont want anyone on track because they certainly dont do anything to entice punters to go to the track.

NOthing wrong with trying to create more of these days to go along with the carnival, the irish day etc........

are you for real overload cause if you are mate then get real .... Good on the sajc for trying something a bit different , if in this day and age you cant accept people for what there sexual preferance maybe then you are living in a cave mate . Dont get me wrong its not for me either but get over it people have a right to have a choice . If the sajc see this as an oppertunity to get more people to the track and involved in this great pasttime called racing then go for it .. There is a serious problem with attendance at the track anyway so why wouldnt you you try new things to get people involved and create something to talk about ..Well done sajac for going out and trying something different as you could have shot a gun at headquarters last weekend and not hit anyone

Just on a sidenote how the hell was there only 4 runners in the first race last sat ....prizemoney was 40k even fifth place was paying $900 and only 4 runners WTF ???

personally i couldn't care less & as with all sports (no pun intended) but bums on seats is whats needed, obviously it's to create turnover with betting, food & the like, now this meeting will have more mainstream media reports than the rest of the year put together which means it is a great stunt by the sajc....who knows it may even end up on ellen .......i'll be honest i am a lesbian & i do love women ....i thought ''poofter bashing'' went out the same way racism did but obviously not & the narrow mindness of some is not only amazing it is appalling, i wont be there but not because of this sajc stunt as i only like going to the trots & if they had the same stunt at the trots i'd still turn up....no big deal in my book
