What can people tell me about this meeting ? I've never been there before .
I believe average crowd is around 12,000, sounds like a fantastic day.
It looks like i will have a runner in the cup,but will know once noms are out today.
A few mates will be flying from Vic and have no idea how to get to Balaklava.
I see its an hour North, so do they run buses from Adelaide ?
More than likely try to get a taxi bus, how much would this cost ?
We have booked flights, motels, so if we dont run we'll still be coming to enjoy the carnival atmosphere.
Will give anybody interested the goss on our bloke once we know if we're in.
Cheers Craig.

The last few years its been more like 15-16000. Hopefully the rain stays away for people to still come upIt looks like i will have a runner in the cup,but will know once noms are out today.
Congrats, hope it winsA few mates will be flying from Vic and have no idea how to get to Balaklava.

There will be heaps of buses, but most of them charted.More than likely try to get a taxi bus, how much would this cost ?
Not sure on a taxi bus but a taxi is approximately $200. If you did this you would need to tee up with the driver to come back and get you as there are no taxis in the town.We have booked flights, motels, so if we dont run we'll still be coming to enjoy the carnival atmosphere.

I know this probably doesn't help too much, but I've never had to worry about transport due to living in Balaklava all of my life. It is an absolutely brilliant day and this year the marquees are extending around the bend slightly, as well as a few on the inside of the track, Most marquees booked ever!
Would love to get some tips as it gets closer from anyone in the know!

There are 3 buses that you can book from the city area
Wellington Hotal
Prince Albert Hotel
Benjamin Franklin is the other I reckon
Ring Doug Hall, who runs the joint, on 88621503 , he will take the bookings
I would recommend you book about 1 minute after you read this post
Bus trip from town would take about 90 minutes
Balaklava Cup day is a wonderful day out, many attendees consider it the best racing day on the SA calender
The roomy track is fair to all horses and horses have a chance to come from behind [is it still the way ?]

Great day, you wont find a better racing day in the country anywhere in the country. I go every year, have been to the last 7 in a row except one (it fell on my wifes birthday )
Reckon they get close to 15k there these days. Might be tough to find an empty bus going up that way this late, would definately be making some phone calls, might be best to start with the club themselves as they might have an idea of where you could get a ride.
Im going up as usual in the Lakes bus/marquee, all food grog entertainment included, looking forward to it. My horse is also running (not in the cup!) on the day as an added bonus, although she doesnt handle the long straight real well.

Thanks for the advice and the pms, much appreciated.
All the buses leave the city at 9.15 but our plane doesn't land till 9.05.
So its taxi bus or hire car.
Hope everyone going has a great day.
Cheers Craig

Interesting race.
Bonindi, Live In Sin, Right Fong would be the ones I'm keen on at the moment.

A few mates and myself own old Haddle McDaddle.
He's in career best form and will give you a site for your money if you back him.
Bonindi got us last week, but with a pull in the weights our bloke will be up to his neck in this.
Happy punting

Are they expecting rain in the next 24 hours ?
If so will the 15,000 still turn up ?
My first time to the cup.

Forecast is morning rain and 16 and they will still get 15,000 there.
Balaklava I dont think gets that much rain normally so it shouldnt be too bad.
Good luck with Haddle.
