Harness racing is considered to be 200 years old today
The first trots race is believed to be run 30/4/1810
The meeting was at Parramatta NSW
The race was won by Miss Kitty [Not the barmaid in Gunsmoke !]
Its come a long long ay since then
HIGHLIGHTS
CANE SMOKE holds the record for most wins by a pacer in a season[34]
That magnificent trotter MAORIS IDOL the most wins by a trotter in a season [22]
One of my pet drivers the brilliant Teddy Demmler drove 175 winners in 1981-82
Most consecutive winners by a pacer/trotter was that champ San Simeon with 29 in a row ! [Moaris Idol did 24]
The great Popilar Alm considered by the great Tee did in 15 in a row
Mobile starts were started at Harold Park in late 1956
44 runners in a race might be a record in 6/6/1921 In Tasmania [no sprint lane !!!]
1890 Electric lights used at Harold Park
August 1977 feMALes were allowed to race against the MALes
1970"S the first trot meeting attended by Bayman
30/4/2010 The Advertiser has Port Pirie race 7-9 Amberlus a Corka listed at $360.00, a good EW bet at those odds

wrong mal, i attended my first meeting in the 60's while in a pusher, the first horse i remember at wayville was a horse called 'the key'

Miss Kitty won the first ever race at Parramatta
The race was over the distance of 15 miles !!!!!!

First trotting archive
10/10/1847
Norah ran from Frome Road to Port Adelaide
A distance measured by the surveyors at 8 miles less 2 chains
timed at 27 mins + 12 seconds
Bets were made that Norah could not run 7 miles in 30 minutes or less
Norah did and the connectitions won the loot
[ The distance I would have thought was further??? and a car from Frome Road to PA would take about 20-25 mins thesedays]
First trots meeting
18/9/1880 , saturday
Old Course, East Parklands
crowd about 1200
weather fine and warm
just after 2 they ran the maiden race
Mr Harvey was the starter and he flagged to start the race
Winners were Tommy Dodd, Pepper,Dominick
[That East Parklands course, is it Vic Park ???}
First night meeting
Jubilee oval [track could be viewed form North Terrace ?]
huge arc lamps used
Crowd between 6000-7000
I wuz not there as it as a non tab meeting

After years of protest by Mal, the Unitab officials have finally relented
GDP Quaddie J/Pot $14,109
as opposed to
Albion Park Quaddie J/Pot $100,000

surely some people would have taken a cheap quaddie including the 1 and im assuming the 8 is behind it now in each leg and then perhaps gone wider

i certainly dont
i used to enjoy punting on the trots, but i dont follow them as closely as i once used too.

watch the race

he quickened up approaching the back straight & let the winner get a bigger sniff for victory, granted it still may've won anyway but with no pressure at that stage why quicken up ? absolutely puzzling in my book
