MONTE FOR GDP SATURDAY NIGHT

Race 5
Saturday night
Globe Derby
2009 Troy Products Monte
Yep the trotters to be RIDDEN by reinsmen/women
Repeat RIDDEN not Driven !

Good innovation last year when drivers were defacto Jockeys for the night
Created a stir oncourse as was a novelty event
I dont mind them, they are a good spectacle

BUT

What I do mind is being race 5
1ST LEG OF DAILY DOUBLE
2ND LEG OF TREBLE
3RD LEG OF QUADRELLA

Im absolutely stunned
It is a 9 race programme and it should be about race 8 surely

The programme is already a difficult punting night
9 RACES
4 TROTS
2 CLAIMERS
1 MONTE
2 PACING

8-}

surely rovers return looks a moral (despite the pilot) in the monte ? i saw the monte run last year & it is a very spectacular event & well worth watching & to be truthful i was against it at the time but one race run like this over an entire year can't do any harm, perhaps they should run it over the summer carnival

bayman, no one is suggesting that its not a bad novelty event and even a spectacle,
BUT its an ABSOLUTE JOKE that its held as a leg of all the Multi's across the country

Whatever browny points the new chief has accumulated were just flushed down the scheitzen with this non sensical decision. The industry needs people punting and this is not an event the serious punters let alone the Multi punters are interested in. ;)

Well Said...
I'm all for having a $5 of $10 e/w bet on a stupid race like this as an interest..

I'm not interested in spending significant money on quaddies and trebles with this in the middle of them :( :(

Instead of drivers in a cart the horses will be ridden [like racehorses]
Its a novelty event

Fun to watch
Suspicious to bet in

Sounds like there's an element of danger involved? Instead of being in the sulky, they're taken out of their comfort zone and are jockeys for a race, something they wouldn't be accustommed to? I wonder how the riders feel about this?

Mickey Crime spoke the chief in person on Tues, Not sure he is completely to blame. Vic are doin some of the SA admin work. The chief didn't realise what had happened until it was pointed out to time by a few people.
Micky C is like you mal, said there is No way he will be investing like he usually does on Quads and trebs. Without Mal and Micky C investing like usual there is guarentee to be a huge difference in the pool sizes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Genuine question. They ride in the carriage in every other race.

These people riding the trots, eat, sleep and breathe horses, therefore are not strangers to riding them. If they were uncomfortable riding them they wouldnt be nominated to do so. no one is holding a gun to their head.

And for your information, there is always an element of danger involved in all codes of racing, and sport in general for that matter..

I'm aware of that. But telling me to get off (or in your words OF) the thread is a bit rough.
They ride trackwork and races in the carriage so i'm sure they're not accustommed to riding them under the pressure of race conditions sitting on their back. Tell me i'm wrong there.
