This is a topic raised by BAYMAN in the past but I need to re-initiate this particular rort.

A pal got me to place a Sport multi for him on the AFL Saturday on my phone account
The transaction was

-18.5 CO @ $2-15
221+ POINTS ES/BL @ $2-10
$50 INVESTED
The bet was called back as a return of $225-50

I had thought nothing of the bet until he rang me this morning to confirm a collect of $225-75
I queried it as being 25cents less
I worked it out on my calculator and RORTSBET had quoted back the wrong amount[25C LESS ]

Alledgedly this happens with monotomous regularity
Its only 25cents but its a principle matter so I will follow the matter thru with RORTSBET in due course.
This agency is consistently betting the worse or close to the worst Sports odds and still have the audacity to rort a few cents as well

SOME bookies actually round off the cents to the Punters favour
And surprise surprise they obtain MOST of my business

as i've said it happens all the time, infact if any of you guys put on a multi on the pc, you just what the return is before sending/confirming the bet & then watch that return shorten after the bet is confirmed/registered, as mal says it is only a sMALl difference but it is a matter of principle but i couldn't be bothered speaking to them but mal can for all of us

I think even JJ mentioned it when betting on a harness race the odds changed from when he put the bet on till he got the confirmation, all of a few milli-seconds....

I think that they probably do this to a lot of internet sportsbets

Rounding off up or down to the a 5 cent increment is standard practice
But to round off by 25 cents is absurd.
Imagine if Harris Scarfes charged you $225-75 for a $225-50 item

I have rang Sportsbet and a representative has explained that this corporation do a round down
I asked the individual to calculate the dividend manually and it came up as $252-75
I asked why do I get a round down of 25 cents
The reply
" I DONT KNOW, BUT I WILL HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU tomORROW."

had 2 multi's - both most goals in the coll-adel into geel/freo game

had medhurst and anthony into Lonergan

Medhurst won and Lonergan dead-heated with James Kelly but we still collected the FULL divvie and not half as i was anticipating.

was Kelly in the market? might explain the full divvie

Or maybe it had something to do with James Kelly not playing yesterday !!!!!!!
Check the Stats in the paper. A bit hard to equal Lonergans 4 goals when you're not out there.

Yep, its happened to me about 6 times, 5 times the odds have been reduced and once the odds actually increased but as was my bad luck, the horse didn't win on that occassion.

Having said that tho, the situation Mal is talking about is different.

Also reminds me of a Bet i had with a Bookie R.C. GUNN at the Gawler trots many years ago when i was a young and stupid punter.
The Jim O'Sullivan trained pacer My Lightning Blue was resuming from a spell after winning the Interdominion in N.Z. and was racing against an inferior lot at Shepparton or somewhere like that in Country Vic. I made the
1 1/2 hr trip to Gawler that night to just have the 1 bet on it as it would've been a LATE MAL if he was giving them out then. The opening call came thru at 1/8 and its price didn't change and tho i was hoping for a bit better, 1/8 had to do.
I went up to Bookie Gunn and asked if he could do any better than 1/8 and he said NO.
I then said ok, i'll have $1,500 on MLB and Gunn wrote the ticket out as $180 to $1500.
I walked away and then realized that it should have been $187.50 NOT $180.
I went back to Gunn and Queried the Return and he angrily replied "we don't deal in Fractions" and reluctantly changed it to $187.50 (The correst amount) and then told me "Don't bother asking me to hold a $1,500 bet from you again"
I was shocked by his demeanor and couldn't believe or understand why he would try to rip the punter off when he should've been going out of his way to satisfy the punter.
MLB won easily as expected and when i collected the bagman gave me my initial stake of $1,500 first and then said "Oh, and here's ALL your winnings" ($187.50) with a sarcastic chuckle.

After contacting Sportsbet about the round off this was the reply by corresponDENSE

$2-15 X $2-10 =$4-515 rounding down to 2 deciMAL places = $4-51 which is then multiplied by $50 to = $225-50

I trust this explains how the dividend is calculated .....

VERDICT
Absolute robbery

TABSPORTSBET to consistently bet the worst odds in all sports is thier perogative and I accept that
To blantantly round off and rip off the punter is unacceptable

Fair enough rounding down but why is the rounding down done on the odds shouldn't it be done on the payout?

Utter crap they think this is fair to the punter.
