Whats your bankroll & average bet size?

Following on from LEH's thread asking who is a Pro Punter etc.

I was curious to what sort of bankroll the brains trust on here have at their disposal and the average size of the wagers placed.

My own bankroll/allowance is only about $100 per week or so, and usually bets no more than $10 at a time.

Do you keep your winnings seperate or are they used for general living expenses???

fair question, Money managment is the most importnat part of becoming successful....about 3 years ago I negotiated with Mrs Dutchy to have $2k of our cash as a bank roll and to keep it seperate from our day to day living income/expenses, this made me automatically accountable for the bank roll and to grow it, which Ive done a few times over....Key is to never bet more than 3% of your bankroll in one bet, that way you can ride the rough patches and not go broke by chasing....thats another key, never ever chase you losses..

Bet to relativity

using your $100 [and the pools= $$$ in the pots]
QUADS have $5k + so I would bet up to $50
any2 s have about $300 so bet no more than $5
Doubles have $1200 odd so bet about $10
trebles have about $3k bet about $25
each way + place there is usually plenty in the pools to bet the whole lot in one shot

If you have $100 to play with and you are a recreational punter who loves a bet
suggest you adopt Dutchys advice and punt about 3% of your bank
so that would be about $3 a race

So put $3 on the LATE MALS and win about 60cents a race !

Mickey,
I'm like Dutchy- I have money separate from my living expenses.
I do operate a bit differently to his way, but the result for me is the same- I posted a tidy profit last year.
Like all of us here, we look for value & tend to thump something if we feel we have the advantage.
An average bet for me would be $50-$100.
My biggest bet has been $500.
My biggest collect would be 1800/80.

Bayman,
If I'd won $1,000,000 off the Bays over a long period of time, then lost $0.50 on them, the Clubrooms would be as good as gone...

Who came up with the GAY 3% rule.
So you've got a bank of $2k and there's an absolute special coming up that is also paying overs, and its suggested you put $60 on it.

Not the way I'd go about it.

Thanks for the hints and tips guys.

Just a few more Q's if i can.

At what stage do u take the profits from the punt and invest in a new plasma or kids school fees?

If u are lucky enough to have grown the $2k start into something quite significant, do u then still bet 3% of the bank?
ie, have $10k in the sportsbet account, do u then wage $300 ont each bet rather then the $60 limit when u start with $2k??

Is there a minimum off what odds u will take?
do u take the $1.40 for the aussies to win a test match, or do u wait for a game where u can get at least evens on a result?

I generally leave the profits and grow my bank, the bigger my bank the greater my unit size therefore it should snowball into a even greater sum....I do pull* funds out from time to time, eg playstation or new laptop

3% is the maximum of my bankroll I would bet, I mainly bet 1% or 2% and leave the 3% as the exception not the rule (usually when they bet over $1.70 for the Bulldogs!)

I very occasionally bet more than 3 units if I see a real good opportunity...

Prices depend on what you think is value, I put a sizeable bet on Sydney to make the 8 last year in Round 18 at $1.40 cause I thought it was a certaintity and their next 2 games where against Melbourne And Richmond...therefore $1.40 was value

but in the main I play Line bets arounf the $1.91 mark and look for the value of the points (i.e. I think the Crows will win by 30 points and the line is -15.5 I think thats value)

each to their own, JJ is very good at value bets as are Mal and Punk...
