It is currently supplementing my punting.... hence I am struggling...had a bad 2007 but 2008 has been posative.... If I didnt have a f##ken family I would be a pro punter and just ride the waves.......

I would think that the 'Blokes' that post on this site would range From the MUG Punter through to the Very SUCCESSFUL. Up to you to work out who fits in which categorey.

LEH...only 1% of punters actually make profits from punting year on year....me thinks that % is a bit higher on here 8)

I think you'll find not many people who have a bet will admit to losing on the punt.
When they do they would have to ask themselves why are they betting.
People like to cheer/brag when they win, are very quite when they loose.

Pro punters are very few and far between.
Especailly in this state.

Spot on there Centreman...
I'll put my hand up and say I actually keep proper records of what I win and lose on the punt. I work for a living and punt as a hobby... What started off being a great first 5 1/2 months of the year for me was wiped out plus some in the last 7 weeks, which is why i've really pulled back on my spending at the moment...

I would suggest to anyone who is punting to keep records of what you win and lose and it might open your eyes to a few things..

Having spoken to someone who for years thought they were doing ok and not losing too much - they started to keep records and were scared off punting - they lost $35k and $25k in 2 years and pulled up stumps on their punting after that...

I too use to punt as my 'hobby'... I did have a phone account but found it 'consumed me', so although its still valid, no money in it.

I do keep records, found that is the best way to 'watch' your cash... having read a number of articles in Practical Punting Monthly, I have come to the realisation that it is often good to 'take a break', particularly when not doing so well.

Was just interested in the stories of you lot, thats all.

Agree with the view that most 'punters' rarely let on about their losses & tend to brag about their wins

You won't get that from me here, I stand by (& put my money on) those horses stated :)

I am quite prepared for 'grief' if they go poorly 8)

Although I am new to this particular board, I have been contributing to the SANFL discussion for years.

Look forward to sharing some more collects with you all :)

Err... even you Dutchy (my BIGGEST critic) LOL

Agree Lads, when I started keeping accurate records of my punting I almost instatly became a better punter and a profitable one, everyone goes thru streaks in this business so when you have a good run its always good to keep those funds up the sleeve for the times when you wotn go so well....the Professional Punters I follow always take some time off when they are struggling.....also important to have a seperate bank of funds away from your normal money/income for punting....

I keep all my loot together....hence the missed mortgage payments and bills piling up..... two minute noodles for little grub (lucky he likes them 8) )...... Sometimes you just have to roll the dice.......

I guess I can only speak for last year (2007)- everything went through my Sportsbet account, so I was able to work out 1) money debited from my Visa 2) money credited to my Visa.
I can prove through this I had a winnig year. However, I made my money through football (& the odd soccer/cricket/racing bet), but when footy finished, I failed to win from that point on, hence I've been inactive since.
I will now wait for the footy & stick to what I know.
